Thanks - pricy ....

For those that have them - do they make a lot of difference to noise and / or heating?

Quieter, different style for a Winter car, more secure. No difference to heating as roof is triple layer.
Protects folding roof from Winter weather.

Good news is you'll get back what you pay when sold.

I paid £800 5 years ago.

I ended up bidding £888 and was in it with 10 secs left. Lost it at £908.

You lost it to an esnipe (or similar company) bid that with around 6 seconds to go simply matched the highest bid and added the minimum to it to win. I suggest open an account and buy £5 worth of bid points if you want to win on ebay.

My estimate of £900+ was spot on.

In fairness, most people snipe at the end, I know I do.

'bid points' - news to me - what is this? How would they know what max I had bid?

Go to esnipe.com for full details, but in effect their currency for charging you. Works out about 50p per win.

You enter your maximum bid and it does whatever is required up to that point.

Or go for "Auctionstealer". It is FREE :D For 3 items per week. If you pay for the programme you get unlimited items - which are put in the last 5 secs as opposed to 10 secs for the free programme. Big advantage of a "stealer' programme is that you do not engage in a bidding war. You decide what article is worth and the programme bids up to your maximum right at the end. I can recommend this programme, it works for me.

Ok, so 'all' it is, is something that will bid on your behalf, just before the timer runs out. I manually do this but yes ....

Ive seen other auction houses (trade me in NZ eg) where if a bid is placed in last 10 secs, it adds 10 secs to the auction.

Cazaxl...If I was bidding on ..Silver hardtop..... I would decide on MY maximum bid...Say £950. No one would know I was interested so I would not be driving up bidding. Approx 10 secs before end time of auction auction stealer would bid up to my maximum on my behalf. If bid has already passed my maximum..No bid occurs. If Item is below my maximum Auction stealer bids what is needed. If it is within my bid range I Win :D Sometimes by only outbidding another bid by £1.00! Main advantage is that you you setup and forget. If you decide to alter max bid during the time the auction is running..no problem!

Actually - I have a theory about noise and the roof - I dont believe the roof itself makes a massive difference to the noise in the Z4. I suspect it something else, Ill start a thread about it as I think its fairly important for anyone that would like their roadsters to be a bit quieter inside (and for a lot less cost than a hardtop).

It doesn't, just a minor improvement as I know from experience of running with and without the top on for over 5 years.

There's a lot of noise in a Z4 so plenty of ways to reduce it :)

Hi Chazaxl..

Maybe, you should simply put up a thread, along the lines of:
'Does anyone have a Silver Z4 Hard Top, they are willing to sell for say £888' or something similar?
If you bid around that figure for the one on eBay and were happy to pay that sum of cash, then simply let people know, what your maximum buget is..
It may bring a few out of the woodwork, so to speak and tempt them to sell - if they have the said item, sat in their garage for example?? :fuelfire:

Best of luck either way..
Cheers..

Thanks. Ive decided to leave the hardtop for now - Im going to find other ways to get rid of some of the road noise. Will be relooking at the car's audio system as well as sound deadening. I think the £1K for a hardtop will go lovely towards other bits. Im also considering ditching the 452's and keeping them for trackdays or similar and going for quieter tyres - most of the noise is roadnoise, not windnoise.
