Can’t quite understand the massive disconnection between WBAC prices and what AT is asking?
Why Not?
Simple; WBAC is the 'baseline' trade value, they will buy it in an hour, no questions asked (as long as it's as described) and get your car gone. AT prices are the 'full retail value' with dealer mark ups (around £2-3000 a car ATM) and finance offered. Private sellers are jumping on the bandwagon of trade prices too.

I understand the logic..just £8k-£10k+ is a lot to pay for dealer comfort..

In a fast moving and uncertain market, there are always going to be 'chancers'. If there is one thing the motor trade are good at; it's seeing an opportunity to maximise profit IMO

Here's an example a 2009 23i SE with 51k £12.5k : https://www.gumtree.com/p/bmw/2009-bmw-z4-2.5-23i-sdrive-2dr-convertible-petrol-automatic/1418330381

The seller seems to be one of the 'chancers'

Autotrader seem to be 'in on the secret' with the dealers TBH. I heard they are now able to track prices, so giving the public the sense that prices are fair. I thought AT were a marketplace for advertising, not an oracle for pricing strategy. :(

Thats based on the low mileage, as soon as you put 10k on it, its worth £3k less - no one is going to pay anywhere near that for a boggo 23i, would rather pay £10k for one at 70k miles and lose a few k when it hits 85k

Sean, wouldn't be my £17k even with 18k mileage

Just for context; I paid £10,200 for a 2013 18i M-sport with lots of optional kit and 25k miles in January from a national dealer (not BMW). The 18i and the 23i seem to be comparable on price, so yes the prices are stupid ATM and don't seem to be dropping even though it's November. :o

I paid £9,800 for mine with 73K on the clock an these seem to be at £12 to £14k right now but WVAC seem to have given up on the summer premium at the moment

It seems that the high offer prices earlier in the summer have gone now, probably because so many people sold their cars at a premium, so the used market has much more stock. Problem is that the dealers that were forced to pay silly money for cars to sell, can't reduce them or they will make a loss, so it's potentially artificially keeping prices high. And private sellers will go by what the trade are selling for but a little less (or actually more in some cases).

When I sold my Focus in Late August, WBAC's highest offer (online only) got to £25,300.
I sold it through Motorway for £27,800.
It was selling at a main dealer Ford garage for £30,000 a week later. It sold too!
I bought it for £22,700 from Ford Direct 1st April 2021.
It sold at a main dealer 1st October 2021 for £7,300 more. :o
Over 30% rise in six months is outrageous. It was a Ford, not a Lambo :D

Even my 2015 Focus 1.0 bought 2 years and 35,000 miles ago is still worth more on WBAC than I paid for it.

Looking to sell my 35is - 68000 miles - but I am in no rush at all and if I get a better price in Spring then I will lightly use it until then and sell then. It is a garaged second car so it is fine where it is, unless I'm made an offer I can't refuse. I've made no real attempt to sell it yet other than a tentative enquiry,
Here is a video of it.

It’s a very desirable car so perhaps do a proper for sale thread and see what happens.
