Nah, the boot lid is going to srhutch anyway so why care :D

I think he loves his spoiler... And I did promise to have mine detailed before switching, so no spanners on my boot, including you :D

My roof motor is exhibiting all the symptoms of having given up the ghost, so I need a new one. Anyone got one that they bought then did not use ? If so, and you are willing to let it go for less than a new one from Sopers (about £290 I believe), then let me know

Mine has suddenly gone very slow when open/closing. I already know the answer in my head, but does this mean it's on the way out?

Second question, does anyone know the position on roof motor and BMW extended warranty?

Andy :(

marchantsuk, check all the hinges are lubricated first - that may be slowing it down... But it sounds like it is on the way out. Mine went slow, was normal a couple of times, did it again, then stopped halfway... then stopped completely after about a week and a bit of misbehaviour

As for the warranty position - afraid I cannot help as I do not have one. I think some have had it done under warranty, so worth reading the small print and asking BMW.

Yes,Bing,as others have too i'm sure,i have always found service/delivery from Sopers very good and quick as well....
as for Joe,myself (and others on here),were told a while ago that Joe had left/and after that, nobody had spoken to him ,til now. He must be back,or a diffirent Joe,lol??

As mentioned, thats what helps make this forum great, people helping out others....hope it all gets done soon, and goes well :D

There's been a lot of differing information from dealers on the warranty. There is nothing in the documentation to say its excluded. If your dealer tries it on, ask him to show you where it is specifically excluded and then argue it out. If this happens to me and they try and fob me off I shall go legal as soon as I can reach my phone

Many dealers have replaced under warranty, hope your's is a good'un

Ordered the motor at 1100 yesterday, arrived just now - THAT is impressive service from Sopers

Seems to have some hydraulic fluid in it already, though only filled to just above the line on the opaque white pastic top - is this normal ?

yes the fluid is about the right level, the only problem is, and i had this problem is the roof got "stuck" closed so i needed to pump the fluid out so i lost a bit... so had to top it up again...

ill reply to your pm, just looking at my calendar for a free weekend. looking forward to your misses cooking!

cheers

chris

Cheers Chris - let me know

Hopefully we'll avoid your problem, but I will get some spare hydraulic fluid anyway.

Mine has just given up on me today, typical as i only ordered my gap-tech last week and will probably arrive in a couple of days. Only had the car for three weeks :(
i am also going to give this a go with a mechanic friend and im no stranger to tools.

just wondering do i just call sopers and mention the forum to get the discount on the roof motor?

i plan on taking a few pics of my own while doing this so will post up afterwards incase it further helps anyone thinking of giving this a go.

yep if you call sopers mention the forum for a discount....

Had a go with mine in and out on Sunday,,, took about 8 hours but now i have had a go i expect i could drop that considerably..

I did find a couple of variations in shipkillers instructions compared with my facelift model... nothing to worry about... started doing it on my own at first but had to get my mate over because you do need two to lift it out and back in again..

brill, will give them a call tomorrow, i presume they will deliver to any address or does it have to be delivered to your local stealer?

did you replace your motor or just take the roof off just for a test run?

i thought about trying to clean up the motor but after thinking about it i dont fancy doing the job twice.

Can be delivered to your home address

Ditto on the clean up for me...

Shaun s - a good price, hopefully I will save myself the £300 my local Indy quoted for labour. The total if I did it that way would come in just under your price. Welcome to the forum by the way - be useful for others if you could share where you had it done

,

Did it as a test run/tried cleaning it up.. it did spin when connected after a cleanup but when back in place it was silent.

Bing does it come half filed with fluid,, you can buy spare fluid but apart from putting it into the hoses there didnt appear to be a top up point?

Mine has fluid in it to just over the line on the plastic 'cap'. Koolchris99 said it was like that on his and no more is needed. He only needed more because he stuck the connectors on the wrong way and the roof got stuck down... So he lost some getting the roof out again. Sopers said I shouldn't need more, but if I do it's readily available at any dealer and is not expensive. There is only 250ml or so in the system apparently.

Got my new sound insulation (plastic casing) from Sopers today

Now all I need to do is by some tungsten torx screw bits (the ones I got in my bargain Halfrauds pack are sh1te and shearing  - recommendations welcomed...), and some sealant and I'm good to go...

:sos: Chris, you there :D
