Wanted - e85 roof motor

Hmm, new forum phrase to add to the flimper spec: "Doing a gannet"

Yes, that is true. Especially reading the other threads of temptation

exactly

See, you can't hijack a thread and not explain... Does everyone who comes into close contact with pvr end up buying his car or something ?

I cannot be tempted - I am bulletproof :D

No, not my car - I seemed to perform the pre-sales activities on gannet's car when he asked for help and he sold it promptly afterwards. So we are assuming that once your roof has been fixed, you flog the car and buy another one, Kev's for example :D

Sounds like the right approach to me. Think one of the other guys had to go twice to Telford as the replacement failed, so would rather get a new one and do it yourself or get an indy to do it.

To be honest, I would start myself and only if I failed, I would then drop the car off. It is not like the car can not be driven without the roof on it .

That was Jimbo

Yes was me. Autotech at Telford I'd highly recommend though. Just my luck that the new motor he fitted from BMW was a bad un.
Now on roof motor number 4. :-(

I wish

Did some maths, and even selling mine for a good price, paying off the loan and then heading for Kev's with a new 3 year loan I will be about £3k short because it'd be stoooopid to get a loan for the lot. The positive is that I probably wouldn't need to have the stock 'spare grand+' you need when buying, given how Kev has looked after it. But the maths still don't work. Sucks, but that's life. Got a Plan, currently sticking with it

Once my roof is fixed I will be a lot happier

Jimbo / guys - isthere anything you'd advise I 'do' to the new motor when I get it, like does it benefit from some additional sealing of any kind ?

Okay, got a quote from my local indy (H&C Motors in Maidstone) - looking at £250 + VAT to install, so £300. If you add in the roof motor at £289 this gives the princely sum of £589. Actually not bad looking at prices others have paid, however I am definitely going to try it myself first and see if I can't save myself £300.

Weirdly he had the numbers immediately - apparently did one yesterday, and one the day before, both Z4s. Must be a common time of year for them to fail after lots of use in the 'summer'... :?

I will copy/paste this into my other thread too, so it can be found by anyone searching

Chris, you are a hero - I will take you up on this I think mate

I am in Maidstone, but I can come to you - might even still have your address in my Honda's satnav

Just need to make sure it's a dry day...

Questions -

- I ordered the motor from Sopers, but reading your posts it looks like I will need a new housing with the sound insulation too, yes ? If so I better call them back tomorrow...
- Did you need to have spare hydraulic fluid on hand ?
- looks like the only other things I need are cable ties, silicone sealant and black gaffer tape ?
- Do you drink whiskey ? :D

Once I have the bits can we sort something out ?

100%, thats exactly what id have done..... sometimes going cheap just really doesnt help, this is most defo one of those circumstances!

I've got a few pretty busy weekends coming up but will be free after me holidays!. ill have to come to you as i not have a drive in london.

answers:
1. you don't NEED the new housing, but what you will find is your old one is soaked with s**t.
2. i didn't have it, hence why i had to take it out again and fill it up! but i reckon if you were really careful you wouldn't lose any.
3. silicone to seal it, cable ties yes, some sort of tape, they use some kind of fabric tape. trying to think what else.
4. of course, i have a nice The Macallan in my hand now!

Okay, for the opportunity to get it right I can wait a bit

PM me and let me know when you reckon you will be free...Sunday mornings don't work for me, but I can do any other times over the weekend.

You are in for a treat - Mrs Bing has said she will feed you dinner... She's Malaysian and a sh1t hot cook 8)

Thanks Chris :ilz4f:

(Jan - if you read this, feel free to come along and learn - I really appreciated your offer of help  )

I can't contribute, but that dinner sounds nice so will see you then? :D
