Wanted - e85 roof motor

My roof motor is exhibiting all the symptoms of having given up the ghost, so I need a new one. Anyone got one that they bought then did not use ? If so, and you are willing to let it go for less than a new one from Sopers (about £290 I believe), then let me know

I'm sure theres a place in Birmingham that does a replacement all in for £400ish - unless your going to tackle the roof motor yourself?

See my other post... I was intending to give it a go, with some help. That would be a good price if it includes the roof motor itself too though. Just need to pay the petrol to get to Birmingham, probably £60 or £70 quid and a day off. Worth thinking about, will have a search again, thanks Ranski

there is also a guy in telfold who does them for 580 all in.... do some searches,,, there is also an indi near durham who quotes the same.. i am sure you may find one near you..

just checking through my old emails and found the quote i received

The hydraulic motor replaced is £569 parts and labour inc vat.

As the motor alone is 280 am planning a trip over to the indi to confirm that is what they use

Is yor buggered too deka ? Durham and Telford are both a bit of a trek... I will have a chat with my own Indy, and perhaps Jembo's, to see what they say

I have decided not to bugger around - new roof motor ordered from Sopers in Lincoln today... Normal price £333, price with forum discount £289 delivered

Now got to see what my Indy quotes for installing it, and decide whether to attempt it myself

Let us know what price you get quoted. Would be interesting to compare it against dealers and other indis

Sounds like the right approach to me. Think one of the other guys had to go twice to Telford as the replacement failed, so would rather get a new one and do it yourself or get an indy to do it.

To be honest, I would start myself and only if I failed, I would then drop the car off. It is not like the car can not be driven without the roof on it .

yep mine has gone too.... been looking at having a go myself.. keeping talking myself out of it  .... I figured that if i could get it out i may have a go at getting it going and if it failed again i would have a good idea how to replace... mmmmmm tooo many choices :headbang:

deka, personally, I have the handyman skills of corsaire77 (though I CAN do it one handed  ). Also, I need my car for work, so it can't be off the road for more than a weekend. So. I will try it myself - with some help - but I don't have the time or skill to be cleaning up a motor... Not to mention the additional time of going through the whole process again when it either doesn't work or breaks again in the future. I'd rather buy a new one, add any additional sealant required (if it is) and know that once it is done it will last a good long time. Worry gone

Calling my Indy shortly, so I will post up the quote I get. To be honest I don't expect it to be short of £300, even as a cash job.

I am sure someone in the government will declare you "morally corrupt" or whatever the term was

Would have helped you Bing, but too far away :)

I was quoted £722 from BMW Redhill which I thought wasn't too bad

Which would work out at about £400 labour - from what I have seen it is about 3 to 4 hours work, so that figures at dealer prices. My Indy is £50 or £60 an hour IIRC.

If you help him you know what will happen.

Saxo boy, that's all I'm saying.

Yes, that is true. Especially reading the other threads of temptation
