Hi Jingle, have you driven a 6cyl version? you might not want the 2litre afterwards :driving:
regards

how much extra running costs etc are involved compared to the smaller cheaper to run etc 2lt??

Not a great deal to be honest, not enough to lose one of the main strengths of the car anyway (IMHO)
Regards

Jingle,

I came on the forum quite happy to buy a 2.0 litre, but no... the boys on here were having none of it.

They even sent a spy whilst I was away on holiday to test drive his 3.0si (read the Z4M now sold post)

I thought, yep the 3.0 is the way forward, but the boys were having none of that either!

So then I get tempting pictures of a superb silver Z4M Sport (being sold by ZermattV) wafted under my nose.

And now I have no home left, no money, & what's more I have to conquer my fear of flying to take delivery of the girl!!!!!

You are next mate, you have been warned. :crazydude:

 thats brilliant 2.0 to M

oh no now im even more confused as im already tempted to start looking for a 3.0...... but dont think my budget will stretch to a Z4M so at least thats narrowed it down slightly lol!!

so the performance increase is massive but the added costs involved are minimal? apart from the obvious insurance differences, what sways more people to get the 2.0 then if not the cheaper running costs?

p.s im now searching Autotrader and Gumtree for 3.0 to start getting an idea of what i can expect for my money if i decide to take the plunge :driving: hahahaha damn you guys!

+1 on the 6 cylinder cars.

Why would you want a 4? Well, Insurance costs perhaps. Lower servicing costs. Cheaper when new. Wee bit mor economical. Tyres might last a bit longer. Less involving. All dull reasons.

what do you guys think of this example??

anything i should look out for or be wary of?

It fits the requirements but the small wheels make it look a bit basic and the standard seats don't do much for me I'm afraid.

I think you'd be better off looking for the Sport versions.

The right car will come along, with the colour combo you want.

The advantages of a 6 cylinder far outweigh the 4 pots...

GLWTS

yea the wheels jumped out at me also (but could always be changed i suppose although its always cheaper/easier to have them already on if possible lol) and i also noticed the seats on this 1

I didn't realize how different the seats looked tbh until i researched it further after seeing these... sports versions are now a must as i would only look at it every day and regret not holding out for them....

and the more i look the more tempted i am with the 6 pots.... its just the general running costs/petrol costs etc that niggle away at me when thinking should i go 2lt or 2.5/3.0lt

surely looking for the below isnt asking too much??

Black
red interior (Sports Edition)
2007 onwards (Facelift)
decent wheels!

upgrades if possible or at least planned by me after i finally get a Zed are:
remote roof control
M bumpers front and rear
quad exhaust
Wheels (depending on whats on when purchased)

8k budget for car and then what evers left to start tinkering with :)

So you need a good standard M Sport that you can then do your upgrades to.

Wheels can be changed and perhaps keep the originals for some winter tyres perhaps or sell them on to fund other things.

The likely hood of finding a set of M sport seats for sale to swap would be very low....and finding a red setc...rarer still and then they usually cost the earth.

I did exactly the same thing when looking, I kept thinking about mileage and costs but you don't really buy one of these for the practical side of things (although they are oddly practical and useable every day).

If you're going for 2007 then 3.0si should put you in good sted. Nice spec, cheaper to insure than the 2.5Si and just as economical.

You'll know when the right ones comes along and I am sure you'll find one with that budget!!

Here you go.. A happy medium. black 2.5 with red leather... On ebay

Start the haggling !

I was in a similar position when I was looking for my zed. I plumped for the 2.0 , very happy with my decision.
I wanted a daily driver for the short journeys I do and was concerned that a big engine wouldnt heat up adequately. Sensible running costs are important for the mileage I do. I found the sport suspension too hard so avoided it but I found a car with all the sport goodies with normal suspension, the colour combo was also too good to resist. Those that have moved from the 2Itr to 3 ltr, reckon the 2ltr is underrated. It seems to keep up ok on the twists and bends with the 6's but can't compete in a straight line.

If I was looking for a weekend toy, I'd have gone for a 6 cyl. So, don't listen to unqualified statements telling you to buy a 3ltr or whatever, decide how you will use your zed and base your decision on that. Good luck!

i know, i keep getting torn back and forth, im thinking a 2.0lt for the cheaper running costs as its going to be my daily drive and no doubt the 2.0 is going to be a lot more than what i currently have, let alone the 3.0 being even more! so i should probably use my head and stick with 2.0 depending if a 2.5/3.0 comes along standing out and teasing me lol.

im also lucky im in NO RUSH as currently have a car and in no rush to sell it, so i can afford to just wait it out and see what comes along even if it drags on till after xmas time, altho i hope its sooner the better...... im just inpatient and want myself a nice shiny Zed to start showing off ASAP :driving:

its a nice example for sure! might mail the seller later and ask for some more details and maybe a few more pics :)

any key points i should ask about that i might not know about?
roof motor?
suspension?
