If so, be aware that there are several different part numbers but you can basically ignore that as long as you ensure you get either a 'Star 12 Low' or a '5RD' to match the one in your car. Its on the label with the part number.
What exactly is the problem with yours?
There are companies out there who can repair a lot of the issues.

Yes its the GM5 unit, the problem its caused is with the central locking, first the doors wouldn't open at all, Auto Leys at Kings Lynn (BMW specialists) replaced the actuator and it worked for all of 24 hours and they say the GM5 unit needs repair or replace but haven't been able to source either, any ideas very welcome, I'll pass your reply on.

I am not sure if they deal with both types but I think [ref]colb[/ref] uses them and may be able to advise.
GM5 repair, I always point my Zedshed Cymru members to Mervyn in Harrogate for GM5 repairs, excellent service returned to you within a couple of days. Usual repair is the replacement of the 2 central locking relays on the pcb in the unit. Always best to ring him with your part number and type e.g if its a Star 12 or other type to check he can repair. He advertises on ebay here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276430964151
If you have yours repaired its a plug and play job, using a used replacement you may not have some of the coded functions your car has because the doner car may have been coded with different options. Using a used replacement will be a gamble as the age of these modules may well mean the replacement will get the same relay problem going forward.
The car can still be used with no GM5 module in place whilst your is away but the following will not be functional...…
Wipers and Washers.
Electric Windows.
Central Door Locking.
Interior Lights.
