Wanted: Driver side headlight, pre facelift.

Having real condensation issues with my driver side headlight after fitting my awesome looking HID kit. It's definitely not the seal (I have modified it, and it's better than a new one from BMW!) and despite "drying" the headlight unit out a few times and putting the cover back on, I end up with a light full of condensation within less than an hour. As a result I am looking for a new headlight unit.

I want a halogen unit (pre facelift) with the ginger indicators and chrome inners, I just need it to be in full working nick (functionally) and good nick (cosmetically) no broken bits, clips, cracks etc.

Need one as cheap as possible in truth.

If you can help me out, give me a shout

Just got to ask how did you dry it out? I found with mine after drying they would most up still. Don't forget warm air holds moisture and once the temp drops outside its steams up. I left my lights with back off in very cold temp outside and then sealed back up. Been fine since.

I made this error too, I cleared the condensation with a hair dryer and replaced the back with warm air trapped inside.

You need to leave it with the back of for at least 30 minutes to match the outside temp before replacing the back.

I can't believe I didn't think of that! I will do that today, that will also let me check that the new seal is keeping water out.

Will let you know how I get on!

Cheers lads

BUMP, after thoroughly drying the inside of the headlamp, I have found my issue. The plastic retainer that helps hold the back cover in place has been broken, so all that is holding the back of the light on is the metal clip that runs across it. This isn't enough and water is getting in on the side the plastic retainer is broken as it isn't holding the seal snug.

New headlight it is then :headbang: As I said, chrome inners, pre facelift, ginger indicators. All intact and in great condition.

Need asap and as cheap as you can do.

PM me.

Cheers

Quoted £160 for one of these from a breaker over here. Have I not seen them moving for around £50 on here?! :o

just buy one with damaged glass and swap parts ,or it's to complicated to you

:| Cheers Marius. I thought about that, but I decided to get a whole unit to save hassle. However, it now looks like I may be able to fix mine, took the front bumper off tonight and am going to make a fix for the bit that broke. So no, swapping parts from headlights would most definitely not be too complicated for me  :D

How about plastic welding on the retaining piece? Or has it broken off completely?

Tapatalking...

Have never done any plastic welding Mark. I have the broken piece secured back in place with glue and am currently trying to figure out a way to support it and hold it in place firmly, as the glue obviously won't be up to it.

Have seen some that have been fixed with staples as well as the welding. Not sure where you can get it done though. I would be tempted to use that bonding putty that araldite do :)
