WANTED - CSL Alloys (19")

Surely. You'd have a higher risk of problems with reps than from OEM CSLs?? I mean I'm sure there are decent reps, but there will also be s**t reps. Hard to make sure you're onto a winner I guess.

Personally I wouldn't stick reps on an ///M. Just doesn't seem right. A bit of a dichotomy, purchasing a performance car and making non-performance oriented mods.
 
Unrelated to recent posts on here but I think I'm going to stick with my original alloys and treat them to some new sticky rubber.

This will free up funds for some other mods ;).

Why would they be poor quality? Have you inspected these wheels from the manufacturer?

I've seen cracked CSL's which had to be replaced on warranty and one with flakey paint which was also replaced...

I've not inspected them, but I have experienced some poor quality ones a friend bought.

The reasons I'd personally buy OEM:

1. They are magnesium.
2. They are lighter.
3. They will last far longer.
4. Their resale value is higher.
5. I've bought a £15,000 car - I'm not putting £500 wheels on it.

Yes, you'll of course find some good reps, and you will find some unlucky people with CSL faults. The CSLs are better though - it's as simple as that.

Naturally those with reps will defend them, and those with CSLs will defend them.
 
CSL alloys are not magnesium....

They wouldnt be £1700 if they were...

They are not even forged but flow casted alloy....And being honest there not even light. A rear wheel is 30.5 lbs,a rep wheel is 31.2lbs..

But each to there own.
 
If they were magnesium you'd probably be paying about £1k per wheel maybe more considering BMW prices.


Yes CSL's are probably better than a good set of CS reps but in my opinion CSL's have been hyped up to something they are not.
 
I would hardly describe BMW oem wheels as quality. Just use the search function and put in the word 'cracked'
I haven't come across any posts about cracked reps yet. I've used numerous sets of reps without major problems.

I've only been here 6 months, but pretty much all the cracked alloy posts I've seen have involved E89's. Rather than CSLs

Thats what I did, the more I looked at the oem ones the more I fell in love with them. They remind me of old M5 wheels. Plus I like the under wheeled look rather than over wheeled with silly profile rubber.

My apologies for the mistake on the magnesium element, but my other points still stand.

I do however agree with your point about them being hyped up to something they are not. Despite my previous Z4M having CSLs, I wouldn't particularly want one with them again.
 
And there is the rub..

Is a CSL wheel with a BBS stamp on worth quadrouple the price of a replica CSL wheel..?

BMW alloys have cracked for years.... MV1's on E36's used to crack on the inner edges..


With the roads in the UK being generally atrocious,mass fitting of runflats and super low profile tyres on big wheels the cracking has now become more prevalant..
 
Absolutely agree. Not only that, but suspension is also suffering (hence more cracked springs on E46 3-Series and Z4s in recent years).
 
3 sets on ebay at the moment, look genuine.

Cheapest set is £1300

The most expensive is a laughable £2000 but has tyres.
