WANTED: BMW Z4 2.2 Litre - £9000 Max

Greetings all,

I thought I would break my silence by finally signing up and contributing to the pool of knowledge.

I am in the process of looking for a 2.2 litre Z4 so if anyone has one for sale, please do PM me with some details. I am quite meticulous when it comes to condition and spec and would prefer most colours other than silver, heated seats (a must), CD changer, reasonable milage, FSH (preferably BMW) and obviously the usual standard / extras that come with the car - I dont ask for much I know :) .

I have been looking for a while and I have only found one car that really meets my spec and that didn't have the heated seats (which I think is a must, no?).

Thanks guys.

Ams.

Welcome to the Forum and good luck in your search. When looking for pre owned I think you need to be a bit flexible in your spec list as a 'mint' vehicle with full service history etc may just slip through your hands because, for example, it doesn't have a CD changer. As for heated seats I personally don't like them but that's just me. Good luck in your search and there's a link in my signature which gives a check list just to work through when you are looking.

x2

Make me feel like ive wet myself.

Have you tried heated seats?

Also CD changer, really? sort yourself out with AUX in (about 35 quid) then you can almost have limitless music from your ipod/phone/mp3 player

Ams - welcome and good luck in the search.

Why the 2.2 engine specifically? Rather limiting on choice as a short lived engine run.

Hi Guys,

Your feedback is appreciated.

cj10jeeper - I'm 24, so I cant push the boat out too far at the moment due to insurance costs and the running costs of a 3.0, maybe I can get away with a 2.5, but tbh, I dont think there are a lot of differences performance and running costs wise between the 2.5 - 2.2, so just thought to save a little on insurance and get the 2.2. What do you guys think?

Regarding the heated seats, it is a nice option to have, all my previous cars had them and I also read somewhere on this that its a little harder to sell a Z4 without the heated seats - fact or fiction (obviously some personal preference in the mix)?

Btw, I wanted to throw a question out and leverage on some of the knowledge here. I went to see a Z4 this morning and wanted to get some feedback on the price as I am a little unsure if its over valued for what I'm getting, below are the details:

FOR SALE BMW 2.2 Z4 2003 (53 Plate), 67500k miles.

Grey colour, three previous owners (so I'd be the fourth)
108 5 spoke alloys - fully refurb,
Full black leather interior (no heated seats), electric seats, driver's memory seat, wind deflector, cup holders.

Its a pretty standard spec and the asking price (after a little negotiation) £8800.

What do you guys think? Its a great car, but my only problem with it is that if i hold out, I may be able to get a little more for my money and perhaps lower mileage or is that me being a little too fussy and unrealistic?

Would be interested to get your thoughts.

Ams.

ZermattV,
I'm not an expert in the Z4 market, but I was thinking at least the lower half of 8k. I have been on the lookout for around 4 weeks and I can't seem to find a Z4 for anything under £8500 with reasonable mileage and excellent condition.

seems expensive in the current market for a 2003 2.2 ...8k max for me

+1

if running costs/insurance are a consideration, perhaps a (newer) 2.0? yeah, I know it's a 4-pot, but it's a good car, and there are a few on here who love them.
As an example, had a look on pistonheads and this one looks nice enough, with it being private there's usually some room for movement on price... http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2084047.htm

lower mileage, has the bits you're after... maybe still a little high on price but for me, after comparing adverts, this one holds more appeal..

Had a look on autotrader came across one 54 plate 33k miles FSH silver on 17" 103s for 8495....

its in scotland judging by the plates but it puts 8.8 for an 03 car with double the mileage in perspective...

happy hunting...

AMS - I can see the logic of the choice if it helps reduce insurancee significantly.

My only comments on that would be to see the price differences between it and a 2.5 on insurance. Running costs are near the same, but would suggest the 2.5 as a good compromise while avoiding the big step up to 3.0. I think the 2.5 will sell better in the end and you'll likley regret not getting one as once you get to drive it you'll crave more power (at 24 :))

Whatever I would test drive a few different engine sizes so you can judge.

As for the car you've seen as others have said it seems too much given the engince, mileage, years and yous say basic.
