We did it with the Bluetooth/Wi-fi in the end. Tried with the cable but it didn’t work.

Makes sense.... also helps answer my own question about my cable version! Good job you went to Rusky first lol as this means mine wouldn't have worked. I'd have to buy the BT/WiFi version to offer it to anyone with 2004 or later ... but since mine works with the cable it's an unnecessary purchase.
That being said, I have just acquired a K+D Can USB cable for use with Laptop coding software but need to work out what it can and can't do yet and with what cars.
