Hi, I took the easy route and bought mine from BMW. Very easy to fit and it works brilliantly. The best £50 ever. I have velcroed my MP3 on the slope in front of the gear stick and set it to random play. Roof down, volume up!

How did the install go?

That's a great price!

Oops! Forgot to post back.

Went very well. The cable works great, volume is low as you would expect with an aux input but it's better than i remember the standard one in my 3 series being. The sound quality is spot on.

Very easy job once you get the vents out. It took me about 1 hour of trying various implements before deciding to use a hair pin and then figure the right shape to catch the spring clips. The cable itself is plug and play, you will have to fit either in the ashtray or the underside dash panel above the ashtray (that's where i put mine) as the cable is quite short.

Save £30 and get this cable.

I'll order one now - thanks for your help mate.

Not looking forward to getting the vents out - everything I've read says they're a right bugger!!

I thought the same, but after reading ALL the advice on here, I managed to get them out in about five minutes.

First, I prepared myself with two of those skinny 'precision' screwdrivers - flat heads, not phillips - and two of the thickest unused credit card type things I could find - actually I used my work security pass and an old AA card!

At the top, centrally located just inside each vent, I found an approx 3/4 of a centimetre hole/recess. I stuck one of the screwdrivers almost vertically up into the recess in the left-hand vent - I found myself bending one of the vent slats by doing this, but it didn't do any permanent harm.

Then I levered the handle of the screwdriver up so that the tip of it was levering down, until it caught the catch and the left-hand side of the vent popped out by about a nanometre - a credit card was immediately stuffed into that gap.

With my left hand still holding onto the credit card already in place, I used my right hand to release the catch in the right-hand vent and then used my third hand  to slip a credit card into this side - and hey presto.

My advice - practice getting them out in advance of receiving the AUX-in, so that when it arrives you can have it fitted as quickly as possible!

Good luck - it's definitely worth it.

Thank you for your help mate - great institutions too! Does the cable come with a mount so you can fit it into the dash panel or does it have to dangle loose? Looking at the pic on their website the mounting part isn't shown.

There are videos on YouTube for the air vent removal. Really helped me to watch them. If only I'd known before spending 30 mins swearing and shouting at the vents expecting them to come out by magic :headbang:

That is the only accepted man-method though :D

If you have the CD changer do you need to disconnect it, or is there a separate aux-in connection on the head unit ?

30 minutes! Seriously, I think I was there for over an hour. It got so frustrating I started smoking after chucking it over 5 years ago

I initially tried some jewellers screw drivers but couldn't get the angle as felt I was going to snap the vent. I then tried a butter knife (read someone else used one with some success), useless. Next was a really thin steak knife which was slightly better than the butter knife. Next up was a steel ruler which was just silly. At this point I needed a break as I was getting to the point of just violently levering them out from the top. Finally remembered a thread with someone saying they used a hair pin so off I went to the wifes make up bag. Worked a treat and I've kept the device i fashioned for future use. I may patent the design and become rich selling them to Z4 owners.

Remember to use masking take on the dash trim around the vents just incase.

Any pics of said 'fashioned' hairpin?

Yes- it contains capacitors to filter the signal and a resistor to create a load on the head unit which enables the 'aux' mode.
