Wanted: 3.0 low mileage FSH etc etc.

Hello all.

Been pondering the purchase of something interesting and after much research, the z4 seems to fit the bill. i.e. it looks amazing, seems to be a proper sports car but with the ability to be used every day. Marvellous.

Anyway I am looking at spending about 10k which seems to get me a 53/04 plate? Not too fussed about colour but would prefer black/silver or grey. Must be manual.

If anyone is thinking of selling their much loved zed, please let me know.

Don't know if you have already checked but there is a couple of 3.0 for sale in the Buy and sell section good luck with your search

I think you will have a long search to find a 3.0 with low miles and fsh for 10k that would describe my car but no way would I sell for £10 k (not that I am thiking of selling) I would look at around £11k or go with 2.5 or a 3.0 with higher miles , I looked at the most of the rivals and the 3.0 zed was my choice loads of grunt great handeling reliable and you can get 30 mpg,

If you are looking at this time of year check to see if the steering colum has been changed if not ask the owner if he has had any problems with sticky steering when the weather gets hot , I had this on my car a £2 k repair but had it done under warantee , and not a major problem but the rear springs can go so worth asking if they have been changed good luck with the search and welcome to the forum :driving:

That's all good advice. Thanks. Its got to be a 3.0 for me I think. Everything I've read suggests its the best engine.

Yep, may have to raise my budget to get a good one, which is more important than saving a few pounds. I'll keep searching for now as I'm in no rush.

Thanks again.

That is good advice i too have an 04 3.0 on only 20k so would never let her go for that sort of money as she is in very good nick and nice spec.

Re the sticky steering had mine changed and as said around 2k but only had to pay £200 towards the labour also had to replace rear springs.

The fact you are not rushing things is good worth waiting for the right car took me 6 months to find mine but was worth it.

This is a good time to buy they will increase in price come the summer.

All the best with your search

I've sent you a pm.

It took me around 5months to find the one I wanted. I wanted upgraded hifi, heated seats, xenons and wind deflector.
I found with the above and also a few other extras including (according to my local bmw dealer) rare cruise control.

When I found the car I wanted it was in Stockton on Tees, near Newcastle. I'm near Glasgow so I travelled down, traded my Celica and drove away the z4. It was an approved used BMW too so I could buy with confidence.

Great cars to drive and I'm only selling because I needed a bigger car with more seats. I now have that car so I'm in no rush to sell. As Gaza says - I also know the price will rise in the next couple of months so if it takes a while to sell it may suit me better!!!

There seems to a be a few low mileage examples out there. Autotrader has some (apparently) good ones around the 10k mark with miles in the mid 40's so I haven't given up hope of keeping to my budget just yet.

Admittedly, the proof is in the pudding though.

I do think as a general rule though owners tend to overvalue their cars especially emotive cars like the zed. Out of interest here's what Glasses says about trade in values for my target car;

BMW Z4 Roadster
3.0 Petrol 2-door Convertible
6 Speed Manual Rear Wheel Drive
Year: 2004 04
Mileage: 45,000
Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition:
£9600
Average condition:
£8710
Below average condition:
£7760

These are px prices and not private sales but are a good benchmark, I think. Prices are bound to go up though over the next few months as suggested.

In my experience of selling cars, not just the Z4, the part exchange price is typically around £2000 lower than private sale price. When I traded my 52 plate celica for the Z4 i got 5500 but private sale price was just over 7000. I've also been offered 10k several times by dealers on the Z4 as I looked for my next car. webuyanycar offered me 9300 or thereabouts.

As recently as December 2009 I saw 2 Z4 on Pistonheads 45k miles, 54plates, lots of extras (in one case a body kit) and both were £13250 - private sales.

I've just added a new topic with the spec of mine thats for sale mate...link is below...might be more than your looking to spend tho!?!
