Hi,

I'm looking to buy a 2004 Z4 3.0i SE, low mileage where possible, preferably in black, possibly modified (or not!)

FBMWSH a must (dealer or BMW specialist), as well as full MOT history.

Some preferences in addition to standard:

Heated Electric Leather Seats (memory)
Xenon Headlights (automatic)
Sat nav
Reversing sensors
CD changer
Uprated audio (if possible)
Electric mirrors/windows
Electric hood
Cruise control (if possible)
Multi-function steering wheel

I'm willing to pay 9-10K for the right car.

Please let me know if you're selling yours or if anybody knows of any that may suit this criteria.

Cheers!

Your options list is pretty big, but some of those like electric hood, windows and seats are standard. cruise is a £70 easy fit.

I got parking, xeons, heated memory sport seats.uprated audio and cd changer, cruise, on a late 2003 3.0, done 50k with FBMWSH for under £9k.

However the hood was on the way out so that was taken into consideration in the price.

So they are there if you search around.

I think you might need to modify your target price or combination of age, mileage, service history, etc. This figure will most likely get you a 3.0i but with high mileage or no options.

I Autotrader'd the other day and was suprised at how solid the prices were at the moment. A 3.0 model will cost 10k now for a well specced model and that wont be that low mileage. Not that many about either and i think that now the public has finally got its head around the design theres a lot of demand for them to.

Mileage is only an issue on these cars from a resale point of view. Its really not that big an issue on a 3 litre car that weighs so little, therefore not stressed at all. As long as the suspension components and roof are good - nothing much to worry about. My car was being serviced in a BMW specialist the other day and the owner and I were discussing how he rarely ever sees a Z4 with any serious problems.

Buy cheaper on a high miler, and then sell cheaper on resale you will lose pretty much the same amount of depreciation. Unless of course your planning on keeping it forever :)

Where did you find this? I've looked on pistonheads, autotrader and here so far. Does your car have any mods?

I've seen one car (due to look at Fri) which has 73K and has several of the optional extras i've put in the ad but he's asking £11,999 (although he said he'd come down to 11k) but i still think that is overpriced. It does have some mods but apparantly that shouldn't make any difference to the market value? I'm still curious as to what does - good condition? Anything else?

Well you probably listed most of the options that people want and specfied a below book price for it in your post.
IMHO on any given age and model (of the older ones) I think these affect price:

Condition, mileage, service history or evidence of care
To some extent while not affecting price directly they make a car more desirable and as such make it easier to sell, which to could argue increase price:
xenons
sport seats, especially redo on some colours like black or grey
sat nav
upgraded audio

upgrades won't
different bumpers, wheels, sideskirts, etc.

Of course each owner has a unique wish list and how much premium they apply. Chances are oyu'll have to compromise.

12k on 73k miles sounds a bit high but £10.5 probably right, but of course so much depends on the car. Post above shows someone has one for £9k while my 'basic' 2003 3.0i is probably worth £12k-£13k and I've been offered it, soa huge range out there.

Unless you are lucky enough to find someone desperate for cash you will be looking at £10,000 +

Mine is for sale at £10,000 & it is one of the cheapest 2004 out there!

Just MOT & serviced it as well.

Mine is found in the link below:

Hi

Have you looked on pistonheads, there seems to be a few knocking around starting at about £9500+

Good Luck

Phil

I'm selling mine, it's on here and Pistonheads - ad on here is titled - FOR SALE - 2004 Z4 Roadster 3.0.
Car really is great with no issues (cept the bad back I get!) and I will be reasonable with the pricing.
Feel free to have a look...

Found it on autotrader, had to travel pretty far though..

Mods? no its all factory,

Mine also had inspection 2 done when i brought it free of charge, and had 4 new runflats on it.

They are out there if you look. Dont be tempted to pay over the odds.

why are you after 2004? whats wrong with 2003?

LEC,

Just for your information - I have pretty much the car you want, and I bought if off this forum : http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16371

It has now done almost 69,000 miles, and I've spent over £1200 on the car, and I have probably another £1000 to spend on it before I'm 110% happy with it ( The paint needs a good professional polish for it to look like new, and there is a tiny nick that only needs touching up, but I want to get the whole bumper resprayed!). It's mostly really small things, like replacing a few bits of plastic with scratches and what not, but I've replaced the wheels with refurbed ones, and bought new tyres all round etc.

I can honestly say even with 69,000 on the clock I certainly wouldn't sell it for £9,000 so I think you are going to struggle to get a low mileage one with all the options you've specified. If I was going to put mine up for sale today, I'd probably ask £11,000 and settle for closer to, but not as low as £10,000

I think you need to either up your budget, or drop some of your requirements.

Agree with the above posts, you need to up the ante - I recently bought my 2003(53) 3.0 with hardtop, nav, electric mirrors, cd changer, cream leather, etc etc with 19k on the clock, full BMW service history and 1 years warranty and paid just under £13k which with my amateur eye was on the money

19k is very low for a car which will be 7 years old soon! That being said, these engines are renowned for being built well, and clocking up mad miles. I personally wouldn't be all that worried about how many miles the engine has done - just the condition of the car.

Hi all,

Thanks for all your repsonses - much appreciated! I am still looking and have been looking periodically on Pistonheads and Autotrader. I appreciate that I may be looking more at 10K or thereabouts but I think I can get a decent one with my preferred spec, but as some of you have said I may have to go for a higher mileage one, which is fine if it is reflected in the price and has been regularly serviced by a BMW dealer/specialist. Like you say koolchris99 I'm not going to pay over the odds and will wait for the right car to come along if needs be.

I have only looked at one so far (the one I posted above) and that turned out to be a terrible experience! The chap whose car it was was away and so a friend and I dealt with his father (a car salesman!), who turned out to be was incredibly rude, argumentative and defensive and even refused to let me test drive the car as he felt he picked up "vibes" from me that I wasn't going to pay the full asking price for the car! It was a joke and tbh has slightly put me off buying privately :? I just hope that I don't have another experience like that! I don't think it helped that we were two females but that shouldn't make any difference.

So, I'm still looking and hoping that any future visits to see a car will not be like that one. :(

Thanks again for your feedback.

why are you after 2004? whats wrong with 2003?

The reason I was looking at a 2004 was because I wondered whether there MAY be more problems with them as they were the first off of the line and could potentially have more teething problems. I'm not sure if this is the case and would definitely not rule out a 2003 but was just my initial thoughts.

Hi there,

Mine is for sale, sterling grey with nearly every option possible on it. Not sure where you are but this is a very rare car and i maybe able to flex on the asking price a little although I am in no hurry to sell so no silly offers will be accepted. HAs warranty on it to which maybe of interest. Full details are here

if im to far away or its just not for you good luck with buying anyways - top tip - get a decent one - had mine two years and not a single issue. Friend of mine bought one 9 months ago without full history and has paid a firtune for it. good luck

I've also got a Sterling Grey 3.0 SE for sale. FBMWSH, great car with rare grey soft-top. Reasonably priced at £9,200. Full details can be seen at: -
