Wanted 2.5L Z4, 3.5k-4K preferable

As title says, I'm after a genuine car from a genuine seller, I have cash waiting, would prefer to pay nearer the 3.5k mark but can go higher for the right car.

Car has to be manual and have a good mot

Preferably not silver either

I like your optimism but £3.5k/£4k will likely be a car that needs work,is over 120k miles or Cat D
If you are cool knowing that then best of luck
Why specifically a 2.5 :? Obviously gives you more options if you also consider 3.0,s :thumbsup:
 
I don't mind a little work, don't want any cat D's though.

I'm open minded to 3L cars but as I was wanting it for a weekend car thought the 2.5 would be the best balance between 2l 2.2l or the 3L I like big engines cars but my last 4.4l was a beast but liked the fuel a little too much

The 3.0s are no more to run RE service or fuel & whilst the 2.5s are plenty pokey & fun they do lack a 6th gear which i always went for around 65mph to find nothing there :cry:
 
as above, i traded my 2.5i roaster in for a 3.0si coupe and if anything i am getting more MPG on the coupe and the insurance is cheaper because its less nickable :)

Those car villains are clued up you know , they don't bother lifting motors that are riddled with rust :poke: :D

Why all the fuss about six gears? Moved from a Crossfire 6 speed to a 5 speed Z4 2.5SE and love it. Found it a pain with 6 speed and negligible difference in MPG. Seems you are forever changing due to traffic conditions. Got around 30mpg for Crossfire and now getting 37.5mpg for Z4 for very similar performance and driving technique. I accept the Crossfire was a 3.2 litre though. :)

It gives more relaxed motorway cruising with the reduction in rpm's, so less buzzy & more mpg is a large incentive :thumbsup:

You'd understand if you drove a 3.0 z4 - suits 6th so well on the highway
 
For me this will be a weekend car as I have my Kia Optima as my motorway muncher, so I'm more about the fun and not so bothered about comfort for motorway driving, I'm open to both to be honest, I just wouldn't want to go less

Couldn't agree more! My 330ci only had 5. Always found myself searching for a sixth while cruising on the motorways.

Thankfully the replacement has 6. :D
 
Lots of sensible feedback re 2.5 Vs 3.0 and running costs etc but I've honestly never groped for 6th, the 2.5 feels lively in 5th rather than revved out and like the OP I'm not a big motorway user so it's not an issue. I tried a 3.0 when I bought and really didn't notice much difference on the road.

You should get a better example in 2.5 at your price-point, obviously if you find identical 3.0 and 2.5 for the same money take the 3.0 but that would be a lucky find, at this age/price the potential costs of repairs can hurt so I'de definitely buy on condition/history/mileage rather than focussing on the extra 500cc 8)
 
Couldn't agree more. Think I should understand about 6 gears versus 5 after over 30 years of driving and it IS negligible, totally regardless of either insurance or extra fuel costs. It's a personal thing, for example I'm simply not at all interested in EVER wanting an automatic and will always have a manual but can completely understand any argument for an automatic if that's your thing. :driving: :)
 
Thanks for all the replies, my previous car was a 540i auto triptronic, it was very fast but I just didn't bond with the car I think it's because it was sort of a business mans sleeper that had the power when needed, I have another diesel car for commuting so this is pure pleasure so doesn't matter if it's 2.5L or 3L I'm after smiles per gallon not miles per gallon
 
That's the thing though...

You'll not see any difference in miles per gallon between the 2.5i & the 3.0i

however the 3.0i will definitely provide more smiles per gallon
