Hi there. first post, so hope this is ok to post here. Have found a 2006 z4 coupe that i want to buy, however it has standard 7x18 wheels on it with 225x45x17 tyres. conti rft on the front and b-stone potenzas on the rear. it drives fantastic, but, and this is a big but for me, from the rear it just does not look aggressive enough. it looks under tyred. So I want to change to bigger wheels. 2 size choices i think 8x18's on the front and either 8.5 or 9x18's on the rear. What would you guys recommend and what tyre sizes would be best?

I assume 225x40x18 on the front

But should I go for 245x40x18's or 255x40x18's on the rear

Looking at running non rft's

Any info much appreciated.

Car held until Friday !!!

On my coupe it is running,Fronts 225x40x18 and Rears 255x35x18 which is the normal setup.
hope that helps
I had non r/flats on my roadster which were Falken 452's and were the same size as the coupe, they improved the no end.

Ok I'll be the first to admit I'm more than a bit confused by your post.

Does the Zed have 17" or 18" wheels fitted as you quote a 17" tyre size on an 18" wheel and none IRC where a 7J.

Certainly pre-facelift (no coupes then) the 3.0SE had as standard a 17"x 8J wheel, however alot where specced with a staggered set up consisting of an 18" x 8J front and a 18" x 8.5J rear fitted with 225x40x18 & 255x35x18 tyres respectively.

The Z4M came with a slightly wider set up still including a 18" x 9J rear (not sure about the front) but the offset is slightly wrong for a standard Zed meaning the wheels stick out to far, again some people on here have that set up and are more than happy with it.

It is possible to go even bigger and a lot of members myself included have gone up to 19" wheels, with a 8.5J front and a 9.5J rear running 235x35x19 and 265x30x19 tyres, you just have to ensure you get the offsets right.

So there is loads of choice out there just pick a wheel that takes your fancy or even check out this thread.

and you will be spoilt for choice, decisions decision, by the way Z4-itis is addictive and there is no known cure.

What he said ^^^^

Tyres... Most members on here who have ditched the runcraps have opted to go for Vredsteins (which look cool) or Falcon 452s,

And welcome to the forum, Post up Some pics when you get it.

sorry for the confusion. Was writing quickly before i left work. Car is advertised as a 2006 Z4 3.0si SE Coupe. Tyres are 225x45x17, so I assume the wheels are 8x17 !!

see ebay advert - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2006-BMW-Z4-SE-Black-Only-15-386-Miles-/270714969481?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3f07de9d89

They just do not look mean enough from the rear. Far too skinny !! Are these the correct wheels/tyres for the car?

Sounds like 8x18's on the front and 8.5x18's on the rear is the way to go. What is the best offset?

Any thing else I need to look out for?

Have until Friday to make my mind up !

Any help appreciated

I wouldn't worry about the wheels at the moment, there's lots of choice available if this is otherwise the right car for you.

The only thing I'd say is that from the photos, it looks like there's no Sat Nav. That might not matter much to you, but it can make it harder to sell when the time comes to move on...

Otherwise, it will be a very nice looking car once you've got a stubby for it :D

Nice car. I have those wheels on mine and I must admit that although I'm alright with the style they're not very manly! I still have the original runflats which actually don't bother me - although I don't have anything to compare them to. I had in mind to get them fitted with winter tyres when the tyres need replacing and then get some nice 18's.

The only thing I'm wary of is that around St Albans the roads are so bad that I worry about the ride + damage to side walls. My old 325 Coupe was very harsh on 18's (I used Michelin Pilot Sports which I suspect were particularly bad as my brothers car which has different tyres was a completely different ride....)

:!: By the way it looks like the cover for the rear towing eye is missing from that car :!:
