Hi,

I am looking to buy a Z4 roadster, I have already sold my car so I am looking to buy ASAP.
Preferences are;

Black
Heated Leather
2.5 engine
FSH
Xenons would be nice :)
<50k miles

But all offers considered.

Cheers,

Tom

For that budget you can get a 3.0L with a fair bit of kit. Mileage really shouldn't be an issue - this is a BMW, these engiens do hundreds of thousands of miles. History should be complete though.

From an MPG point of view I was going to stick to a 2.5 rather than a 3.0??????

Test drive both before you settle on one or the other. You may regret it for the sake of a very small MPG difference

3.0 also come with many extras as standard such as ///M sport suspension and tend to be better specced by owners from new, but are not that much more expensice a few years down the road

£11k should currently get you a good deal. Was thinking of changing mine but unfortunately I am currently in Dubai and won't be home until December. Best of luck with you hunting.

Definitely get a 3.0i... it's just quick enough for a sports car. Not too much, not too little. And far from expensive to run/buy vs a 2.5i.

11k should get you a good one, I should know, thats how much mine was! 3.0 Manual 53 plate 36k FBMWSH and well specced (xenons, cruise, 18s, CD Changer). From a main dealer too.

Good luck :)

Probably not the right forum for this question but in the real world whats the mpg difference between the 2.5 and 3.0 then?
Cheers,
Tom

I cant see much difference honestly between the two. On a tank of fuel u may gain extra 10-15miles with the 2.5 compared to 3.0. Is it worth it? Obviously test drive, but I would go for 3.0 l because they are better specced up. good luck. welcome to Z4 club.

Why the concern over mileage?

All the Z4's I have looked at or people I have known with them, from 25k > 95k ones, have all felt much of a muchness really.

Worth less when you sell, but cheaper to buy in the first place, and so a lower depreciation rate anyway.

depends on what sort of mileage, for example mine did a lot of mileage in the first 2 years of its life, and the other 4 years its done below average, plus i dont do massive miles either so when i bought i wasnt too worried about mileage - more condition, spec & service history.

Nice looking car but slightly too many miles for me I am afraid, thanks for the nudge though.
Anyone else selling?
Tom
65k is a good amount but I don't think you'd find a car looking as good or well specced as that for 11k.

They are all so old now, it's condition rather than mileage, imho. If I saw a 100k mile model with tons of receipts for clutch, bushes, exhaust etc relatively recently in it's life, it felt tight on the test drive, and was £8,000, I'd have that over a 40k model for £12,000!

Low mileage won't guarantee a good clutch, bushes, discs/pads etc... engine might be better, but if it's had really low usage it might have missed the 2yr service interval too.
Also, the engines seem to be strong and last ages.

Again, it all depends what you want. More mileage is cheaper to buy, but may cost more to keep going than a lower mileage one, but that all depends on individual cases and conditions.

Personally I tend to avoid low usage models because cars that don't get used often have their own issues because they are under-used. 12k a year almost guarantees a service every year. Also, too higher mileage can be bad in other ways. All depends, but basically I wouldn't write off a car for a few thousand miles, if it was otherwise in need of no real attention. Also, good seat/colour combo there on Herminators car... M-sports in red are rare to start with, and on a nice black example!

Thanks guys.

Added to the details in my thread, the car has warranty with Warranty Direct until mid April 2010. So most worries, such as roof motor going, are covered. Although the car is garaged over night, so I think the roof motor drowning is less of a problem and I do occasionaly check that the motor area is draining and have never seen it swimming in water.
I have plenty of reciepts from this last year, which has been 20k of motorway miles, using V-Power fuel.
It's also booked in for next Friday to get the seat bolsters restored.
I'm a fussy bugger, which is why I listed the paint defects, they're only really visable from closer than a meter and typical for a car a few years old.

The car is also on Piston Heads now, although not a premium add yet, so it appears a few pages in.
