With the success of my "Want to buy a new bicycle..." thread today, I thought I might aswell start this one too... :D

Under £40.

What do you Audio Whores think?
 
IMO at that price range you aren't looking at decent headphones - sound will in all likelihood be lacking in bass and a bit tinny. I have shure and etymotics; they are very good, sound quality is excellent, but you're looking at a starting price of at least double £ 40
 
Sennheiser HD215. I shopped around and got a set for £45. A little over your budget, but worth it IMO :thumbsup:

Good bit of kit (in that price bracket), obviously they're not the be-all and end-all of headphones, and as Markeg says, you're not going to be buying audiophile level headphones at this budget. That said, I've found them to be fantastic for every day general use.

Another for spending more, I have a pair of ultimate ears, which are in-ear type, they have two or three drivers per ear dependent on model, but do take some getting use to. However the upside is almost musical perfection, it actually sounds like the music is playing inside your head, they have also good sound deadening characteristics as the seal the ear canal. I have had mine for 6 or so years and you can also replace the cables for when they eventually wear and break, as they all do.

If you like music at all spend the extra, you will not be disappointed.
 
Is phone connectivity important? I really rate Klipsch headphones. S4 or S4i are very good. They are a little more £££ though
 
My etymotics have the moulded ear pieces - really recommend them (your local Boots can get the moulds done, costs around £80). If you want really good sound, I would really recommend pairing decent headphones with in-ear moulds
