Walmart/Black Saturday

We never do the after Thanksgiving sales so we were a little leary about todays Walmart 8 am sale items. We picked up a Compaq laptop for $298.00. It has some pretty good features, and the wife doesn't game, so for the price it was a great deal to replace her 10 year old model. Just a heads up for those on other time zones. We are doing our part to help the economy, now its off to Honda to pick something (4 door) up for the twins.

How does buying a Honda help the economy? Great deals out there on everything made by GM, Ford & Chrysler - Oh yeah, forgot, this is a BMW board with demanding tastes :rofl: How about an X5 for the little ones, or better yet an X6!
 
I should of known the Honda comment would get me. :rofl: :rofl: I'm trying to stay low so we can pick another Z up in the spring.
 
Yea, but the Honda will still be on the road 10 years from now. The GM, Chrysler most likely will not...
Ford has the same quality rating as BMW.. No s**t.. and a little better than Merc...

Seems like MB is always toward the bottom of the quality list. Aren't most Hondas made in America now?

I had a Ford F-150 for over 20 years. Beat the hell out of it and it never failed me. My Hondas did not last me 10 years. I lost the valves at 33,000 on my Accord. :( My wife’s Chevy Truck was going strong for 12 years until she decided to play bumper cars and totaled it. I have never had good luck with Japanese cars. There is nothing like German engineering. :)
 
My F150 is still going strong after 12 years.
My daughters first Honda Accord died after 279000 miles... Now her Civic is going strong after 110000 miles. Both were bought used. My wife's first Honda, a 97 Accord, we bought used, went to 110000 miles before we traded it in on a new one. The second one was a lemon and after 13 months, they gave her a new car. We did not have to ask for a new car. They just told her to go pick out a new car... We are on our fourth Accord now....

I expect Ford and Chevy trucks to last a lot longer than the cars.

We were discussing this on another forum not long ago. Everyone was discussing how crappy US cars were and I asked if anyone would buy a US truck - everyone said "no probem." I think US truck buyers demanded more quality from US car makers, while car buyers simply bought foreign makes, so we ended up with much better trucks.
 
It's also a function of engine design, torque and RPM.

Most truck engines make 80% of their torque at 2K-2.5K RPM and very seldom ever go about 3000 RPM. Most 4cyl engines regularly go above 3000 RPM...

So to my way of thinking, the V8 in your/mine truck works less hard than the 4 or 6 cyl engine in your car, so it is stressed less, so has a much better chance of lasting longer..

And then there is engine design... I really truly believe that Honda has a much superior design with regards to longevity...

Yea, Yea, the M54 engine has more awards than any other motor made, and BMW leads the list of companies with awards, but Honda has six to ten times the number of engines on the road, still on the road....
 
Does a design award mean a better engine though? It may have been a very nice design, but might not last.
 
In terms of driveability, the BMW engines are fantastic. Flat torque curves, lots of HP per pound....

I also believe that for maintenance, the BMW engine is laid out in a much more logical pattern.
Christ, the OIL FILTER is on TOP of the engine. I don't have to spill a 1/2 a quart of oil to change the filter.... :headbang:

The hose clamps are lightyears above anything Detroit has to offer.. Quick disconnects that work....

Also factor in the demographic of the BMW owner to the Honda owner. In general, the BMW owner has more money and can/will trade in his card every couple of years or so... The average Honda/Toyota owner keeps their car a lot longer. More miles...

And think about this, since there are six to 10 time the number of Japanese engines on the road, and for a much longer time, the manufactures have a cubic butt ton of longevity and real world data at their disposal....

Remember the Japanese motto, small increments... and that is just what Ford has done over the last several years. That's why their quality is so much better than the other big three....
 
We pulled the trigger and swapped the coupe out for an 09 Civic sedan. I am happy with the deal and you can tell with the lot full of Civic's things are not going well at Honda either. I feel very good walking away from the table but, I can not help but wonder how many people are tricked into things that they tried to get us to buy into. I guess the average consumer is oblivious. We started with 7.9% financing and finished at 3.8% just by a little badgering and questioning.

I am open to suggestions on a small digital camera, nothing fancy (meaning I am electronic iliterate). :thumbsup:
