Wallet stolen, any advice?

Hey guys,

Im just back from a great holiday with a slight bitter after taste :(

I left my wallet on the plane on the return leg. Now, i should add the details. A good friend of mine was working cabin crew that flight so once grounded i was last of the plane as i was chatting to her while everyone got of. I was seated only a row from the back and a window seat so no other passengers went mear my seat. Basically I KNOW it was left on the floor by my seat.

The cabin crew left the plane and my friend says they have a quick look but unless its glaringly obvious they wont notice things on the floor etc.

Once i realised I tried desperatly to get back on the plane or for someone to go back for me but no one was allowed back on as the plane was 'sealed' for it was the planes last flight of the day. My friend spoke to the cabin crew that were flying out on the plane the next morning and they said when they got on the plane it was not there.

Monarch airlines stated the only thing i could do was wait for it to show in lost property. Of course as you can imagine it never made it there. The cleaners blatantly have it.

So, im 300 quid in cash down and another 100 for the cost of the wallet.

Any advice? Ive emailed EVERYONE and seem to be getting nowhere :headbang:

Hope someone picked it up and sends it to you.

I lost my credit card and drivers license last friday. Had low hopes for seeing either again but someone picked both up and posted them to be recorded delivery.

Just make sure any cards are cancelled.

Nice story Neil :)

I am resounding myself to the fact its extremely unlikely i'll get mine back. The cleaning manager says there is no record of anything found. I just thought, possibly naively that as i knew where it was left and that im dealing with an established organisation rather than a toe rag of the street i might get it back.

I fell very done over :x

It is probably gone.

The cleaners may have nicked it...they aren't gonna record it if they want to nick it.

Or, it may have gone further under the seat and not been seen by the cleaners (I got on Upper Class flight with Virgin once and there was crumbs and stuff all over my seat!). Whoever looked the next day might have nicked it, or it might have been a passenger on its next flight.

The world is full of dishonest people...and for those that are honest, we constantly see examples of where honesty DOESN'T pay.

There are only a finite number of scenarios:

1) Cabin crew found & kept it
2) Cleaners found & kept it
3) It was still on the plane and a passenger found & kept it
4) Cabin crew found & handed it in
5) Cleaners found & handed it in
6) It was still on the plane and a passenger found & handed it in

1-3 and you've lost it - take better care next time
4-6 and you may still get it back, as things don't always go to lost property straight away (my prescription glasses in their case took 2 weeks to be 'found')

However, won't your holiday insurance cover it, assuming you've reported it and got a 'reference' from the airport BIB?

I know, its balls. Just very frustrating knowing who has taken it and it cant be retrieved. :(

So, onto the wonderful and even more painstaking world of insurance claims

Anyone in the insurance game and shed any light on these two sections from my policy??

Covered

A. Personal baggage
You are covered up to the limit detailed in the Schedule of Benefits for the value or repair to any of your personal baggage (not hired, loaned or entrusted to you) which is lost or stolen, damaged or destroyed (after making proper allowance for wear and tear and depreciation) limited to:
a. The single article limit as shown on the Schedule of Benefits for any one item, pair or set of items
b. The Valuables limit shown on the Schedule of Benefits for all Valuables in total

NOT COVERED
If you do not exercise reasonable care for the safety and supervision of your personal baggage.

As you can imagine that point in the 'not covered' section is a bit worrying!! Surely thats the definaition of losing something?? Will they pay out?

Just make sure you word the claim correctly

Sorry for your loss.

You seem to have it in your head that the cleaners have had it when already pointed out to you that it could of been picked up by cabin staff or another passenger.

i would feel so good to find and hand back a wallet, don't give up

I've done it a couple of times.
I Handed in a box of Antique books this week as well.
I'm sure a lot of cleaners are handing stuff in every day.

Im very good friends with the cabin staff ya see Jimbo. Its very unlikely they took it and more than their jobs worth. Evrything is pointing to the cleaners.
Im pretty sure if wallets dont turn up in 48hrs they're gone. :( My word against theres.

The worlds full of dishonest folks, but Frankly I don't think cleaners would take it. They are watched like hawks and if spotted would lead to their immediate job loss. I saw this in a hotel where an item if my daughters was binned and GE hotel was set to sack the cleaners and team leader. Turned out they had just binned it in error.

Don't lose any sleep over it. Put in a claim, stop any credit cards and move on. Life's too short.

As per the second post - had a wallet returned 2 months later years ago - no cash, though everything else intact.

I think you have a 50/50 chance of getting in back, but cancel all cards ... yesterday

I'll not lose sleep over the lost part. But i know i'll probably get frustrated with the insurance part

Just to put a positive spin on this...

A guy at work left his ipad on the plane, on the last flight on a friday, and only realised when he got on the bus to the terminal... He managed to get a flight attendant to check his seat but she couldnt see it... So he suspected a passenger saw it and took it.

Monday morning he rang his insurance who said need crime ref, check lost property all that stuff which he did... But rang them again anyway. Didnt expect much but low and behold they said someone had rang saying they had accidentally picked up another ipad.. Mistaking it for their own, but only realised when they got home that they had 2! They gave him their details.

He rang the chap and as the guy who picked it up lived in preston and he lives in derby the chap posted it special delivery for free... With an apology!

hey,

that sounds horrible to have happened, I'm only posting as I'm going to vouch for people like me with really bad short term memory, as i used to work in a pub, and found someones jacket, they phoned the next day and i wasn't on but left a number anyway...

about a week later I was working with the person who took the call and she mentioned it to me, turns out I had just poped it int eh office and forgotten to mention it to anyone at all, as I had finished my shift and completely forgotten about it, rang the person and they were extremely happy, as it had there rather expensive watch in the pocket ;)

so you just never know sometimes, but I hope it gets resolved, let us know the outcome.

at least it wasnt the keys to your Zed

Holy sh*t, it's a wallet not a dead pet :poke:

Why would you take a dead pet on a plane?

Hope you can make a claim, losing a wallet/purse is mightily annoying, however if it makes you feel any better I left my passport on the plane once, try getting back into your home country without a passport
