Right guys, sorry been quiet for a while....been hectic!
Date is confirmed as Sunday 15th April.
Right, so a bit of a plan is formulating.....this may be subject to revision, but here is a 1st stab:-
For anyone coming from the 'North' or areas of the Midlands, we will be in Llangurig, just off the roundabout at the junction of the A44/A470 at, say, 10am. We can then travel together South along the A470 to Rhayader where we can pick up anyone coming from the South/Midlands in a public car park at around 10:30 (just off the A470, on the North side of town). Toilets are available here for those in need after their journey, and there is a rather nice coffee shop for anyone wishing a quick brew.
From Rhayader, we will drive out into the Elan Valley (don't let the map put you off...it is a road - just) and up to Cwmystwyth and on to Devil's Bridge.
From Devil's Bridge, we will take the A4120 down into Aberystwyth. Lovely views over Rheidol valley, and later over Aberystwyth and out to sea on a very good driving road with some challenging curves and bends. We will then detour into Aberystwyth for a quick trundle along the promenade in convoy Cool
From Aberystwyth, we will then take the A487 south to Aberaeron. Towards Aberaeron, there are some beautiful open sea views from elevation from which a good view of Cardigan Bay south to New Quay, and north up past Aberystwyth and on to Barmouth, with (on a clear day!) views of the Llyn peninsular. If possible we will pull a halt at a layby along here for a little eye stretch....depends on layby availability.
In Aberaeron, we will take lunch at
The Harbourmaster Hotel. A very high quality establishment Cool We could use actual numbers asap so we know whether to book a table for Sunday lunch or a bar meal.....Definite photo opportunities around the town.
From Aberaeron, a quick blast along the A482 to Lampeter and then on to Llanwrda (another 'challenging' road Laughing) where we will cross the A40 and join the A4069 Black Mountain Pass (aka Top Gear Road (one of them)) down to Brynamman.
From this point, and assessing the time (it should be around 16:30hrs by now), there is the chance to take a run up to the Brecon Beacons National Park, or for those from the South to make their way home along the M4.
