Waiting on delivery of one of these with a pair of very high end CPUs and a cartload of memory to arrive. Sitting on a pile of new software which has arrived before the system... Must resist installing and activating it on the current box. Argh! IMO, it's the Alpina or ///M of PCs :)

And before the Mac brigade pile in, they don't have a system with twin E5 Xeon CPUs (and not looking likely either according to the Apple Store bods) and I have a pile of Adobe software that you can only purchase a license as an either/or.
 
Yes. I found mineral deposits in my garden. When I fetch it out I'm going to buy something red with a prancing horse on :)
 
I can sympathise...I just had to wait 3 mins in McDonalds to get served getting my lunch...the waiting is so tough on us... :poke:

The turmoil of the middle classes eh? :rofl:

No they don't, if you're talking about the latest Sandybridge ones (i.e. the enterprise/server equivalents of the current i5) range, rather than any E5xxx range, as the Apple website seems to claim that current Mac Pros are available with 2 quad/hexa core Intel E5xxx Xeons.

It's one of the reasons I've not swapped mine for something newer as I normally do every 3 years.

My 4 year old Mac Pro has two 3.2 GHz Quad Core 45-nm Intel Xeon X5482 (along with 16gb RAM, 2x256gb SSDs and 3 x 2tb HDs). The only thing I miss on the Mac side are decent price/performance graphics cards, as what Apple offer in consumer graphics card options are a waste of money (that's why I have a flashed HD6950 in mine).

Here's the full list of the processors in the current/historic Mac Pros.

I'd guess that you got the Dell for a lot less cash than the equivalent Mac Pro :thumbsup:
 
Actually a Precision is similarly priced, and when I priced up a mac book pro, the Dell mobile Precision cost more. The only thing that stopped me was the software licensing costs to move.

I've got a workstation running on 2x quad core X54xx Xeons now, but it's slowly dying. It's unbranded, I built it myself a few years ago. The architecture change at the 5500 series was a step change in performance. The new one will double the core count and quadruple the memory.
 
Made sure someone was in all day on Friday for a City Link delivery, as they emailed me first thing letting me know my order was out for delivery.

Had another email at 1:00pm saying that they'd failed to deliver the parcel as no one was in and they'd left a card for me to re-arrange delivery. Checked the front and back of the house and no missed delivery card to be seen.

I phoned them and they were insistant that they'd try to deliver and that their delivery drivers now take a timestamped picture of the house they are trying to deliver to as proof, they said they'd send this through to me.

Around 40mins later I get an email with the picture.

I phone them back

That's not our f**king house or even our road ... (I was actual reasonably polite, but that was what was going through my head)

All the automated tracking, gps and monitoring in the world doesn't help when a delivery driver can't read an address.
 
If you want to confuse a delivery driver try this one. I live at number 9. At number 8 lives a man with the same surname and first initial as me. The only thing that makes our address different is our middle initial and house number. We've got used to delivering each other's post now. :)
