W/Y 88/90 what on earth!!!

Just getting an idea of what tyres I can put on my summer alloys to replace the dreaded run flats. I've looked at the run flats and they're 225/40/18 88w and 255/35/18 90y.

When I've checked on camskill I can get y or w, which I understand is the speed rating, but what's the other number and does either the speed or the other make any difference on a car that's not tracked?

I thought it would be hard enough picking Goodyear/Michelin/pirelli etc!

It's the load rating mate, tells you the maximum load the tyre can take

So what load rating do I need and what difference does it make?

88 - 560kg
90 - 600kg

Either will suffice. The difference is obviously 40kg per tyre.

As far as I can work out, anything round and black will be an improvements on the run flats.
