VW Up!

Remember to go for the 3 year servicing plan, was something stupid like £50 or so.

You know I really should get real and look into something like this. I keep looking at more and more expensive cars when a little fun monster that's this cheap to run I really should consider. £50 for servicing... £250 for crash protecting radar etc... all stuff BMW and the like charge a small moon for...

If you do you just need to be in the mindset that a 1.0 3 cyl isn't going to be a ball of fire but around town it will be quite a fun little car and cheap as chips to run, added bonus for a city runabout is its a quality product but still doesn't cost the earth to buy,

My neighbour has just got an Up for his wife and i have to say it's really nice. Spec it up with decent wheels as you would any car (eh Tim :poke: ) and it gives the Mini a run for it's money. it has a very nice interior and a bigger boot too.
I've not driven it but she had a mini before and she says it's just a much fun to drive.

haha thanks Steve, well I won't ordering until around Feb so plenty of time to decide, problem is I keep being pulled towards the little Suzuki Swift Sport, similar price to the Up after the Up has been specced up a bit but the Swift is a 1.6 twin cam 134bhp as opposed to a 0.9 3cyl 74bhp lol, the Swift also has xenons, keyless start/go over the Up plus I fancy the What Car presenter :)

The only plus I can see on the Up is a higher quality interior and residuals.

I had a swift GTI when I was about 20, loved it and was fast back then! But build quality wasn't great, still loads better than my mate's Citroen AX GT. I think the Up looks a great little car and well built from what I've seen.
Sorry about the wheels poke :D

Snap, I had a Swift GTI as well from 1989 to 1992, loved the 101bhp twin cam engine with the blue cylinder head like a Lotus Cortina :) Had a couple of Swifts since then and always been happy with them.

....you forgot to mention the dildo gear stick

The Up is on our watch list too as we can buy and insure it for less than one years insurance on the Zed for the kids. Only worry for me is the boot space which is tiny :(

It's not, there's a secret cubby hole underneath, loads more room compared to the mini!

I think the Ups boot space is much more than the MINIs and interior space not much less than the Polos. I will have to arrange a drive as the engine might be a bit too sluggish but won't know until tried.

Ok will have another look. Guess anything looks tiny in comparison to my 5 touring :-/

Do like the outside of the Up, and the interior is much better than Ford etc have to offer. Mini not an option as too high an insurance group.

Going to feel very weird test driving something with such a small engine.

You get used to it. The OH's toyota IQ has a similar 3 cyl engine, 0-60 is 13 secs but these cars are so small and so nimble you can dart them around all over the place and the only time you really notice how slow they are is on the motorway.

I like the idea of these small cars but I think the Up looks rather unfortunate, putting it politely. The Fiat 500 is far more stylish and the IQ that Maniac mentioned is also really nice too.

Pretty much decided on the Swift, compared to anything else for the money its just too hard to ignore :)

As much as I like the Up 13K is pushing it a bit for what you get. I think the Up makes more sense if you go for the basic car at 8K or so.
