A friend has a VW something, which has a hard retractable roof.

She’s been told to use something called Krytox to clean and lubricate the seals.

It seems quite expensive.

Is this the same as gummi fledge?
 
gummi fledge is a rubber conditioner. Krytox is a teflon based synthetic lube for metal.

Why bother when she/you/we have gummi pflege or its substitutes which work for the rubber and other, easily available lubricants for the metalwork?
 
That’s my question, is it effectively the same thing?

The video she has clearly shows it being applied to the rubber seals of the retractable roof. In that section of the video they don’t work it into the rubber so that might be sitting on the metal, but on other parts they do work it in to to the rubber.
