so Gary, where's your thoughts now?

over the last week I have been thinking of a new car, I currently have a 2.0ltr diesel 140 break golf, I am 50/50 on the 1 series and another golf

Well... I went to see the face lifted E class coupe today. 37K

One word. Stunning.

If there was a car that beat all else in that area for class and style, this facelift E class is it.

Someone else possibly comming over to the dark side :D

I like the GTI but not that much. My new car money would be headed towards the best deal I've seen recently - a BMW 3 Series Saloon F30 335d xDrive M Sport Step Auto [Business Media] £420 a month for 2 years with £2.5k deposit. Then hand it back and get something else.

0-62 in 4.8s :o it eats 35i for brekkie :poke: :D

I'd love to but 39K for the 250 (best of all worlds, quick enough and good on juice) I'd have to find 20K to switch. It was a stunner of a car, the new facelift AMG Sport chrome splitter is to die for. But 20K would be so much useful elsewhere... stuck between 'get it' and 'be careful, there's other stuff you want to do'...

I thought the fifth gear review laughable. It's crap because it's safe and no good on the track. So it makes a good quick road car then, which a what vw intended. Ok so it's dear.. I still like it tho ;)

Get a Fiesta ST2 Mountune. It is quicker, better looking, costs £11k less and is considerably more fun to drive.

Comparatively speaking it will be as cheap as chips to run too.

Well I've yet to drive the gti but did drive the lci merc e class coupe today. It's not for me, a real shame as it looks lovely, quiet rattle free interior but the car gave me no James May FIZZ so that's that on the merc unf :( buggery ball bags.

Still want to test drive that gti so perhaps that's my entertainment for tomorrow.

Lucky escape, theres a little of the boardroom barge going on with the e class :|

I would keep the Zed and get something cheap small and fun.

Tim.

Weirdly, I just watched the Fifth Gear episode on Sky+. The car and styling look lovely, great for road driving with all it's technology. I think Tiff was overly harsh, though I guess he's pitching at purists and enthusiasts.

That Volvo touring car

Just to wind OG up, a positive review on the new S3 saloon by pistonheads

Had a Mk5 GTI and it was a fantastic car - the understated looks suited where I worked at the time and in all honesty was a much more resolved drive than my 3.0 E85 - I used to do a fair amount of motorway driving abroad with it and it was faultless, but the big but was I bought that car brand new in France for 17k . I don't see how the game has been moved on enough for it to become a 30k plus car in its Mk7 guise. I think the M135i looks like a really good deal but then it needs to with those looks and that cabin .

Have you thought about an XF ?

Haha! I read that earlier Sars. To be fair, I might have to eat my words and say it's actually not that bad looking :-O It's certainly better than the normal A3 which is the dullest car ever to look at and to drive.
