VW Golf enthusiasts

I'm a huge mk2 fan and have had both an 8 and 16v version. I still have the 16v which still (almost) lives on after 13 years but it desperately needs finishing.....With any luck I'll make some progress this Christmas!

An old pic that I'm sure I've posted before but it's all I have available at the moment. I've had some great times in this car and despite it being fwd,old and slow, I've had just as much fun in it as I have the z4-It's just so exploitable and allows you to take liberties that I simply wouldn't dream of taking in the Z.

Other than a 1.9 205 gti, I don't think there's a nicer looking old hot hatch. The mk1 might be the original, but my heart lies with the mk2 8)

The bit that needs finishing......and probably rebuilding given how long it's been idle. :(

Despite it becoming a running joke, it will hopefully be finished one day as I really do miss driving it.
 
Thanks, I think so too, though obviously being nearly 25 years old it has a few marks and bits I'd like to sort but it's in pretty decent shape overall. The colour is called Royal Metallic Blue and It has a lovely, very subtle flip to the colour-definitely one of the nicer shades for a late car imo.

I think it must be the photo (or your eyes, :poke: ) bluestreak, though oak green is a great colour too.
 
Mark 2 was the peak of the Golf's beauty. After that, it went downhill rapidly - especially that mark 3 was an ugly thing.

Agree with comment about the Mk3 being ugly, ok-ish in VR6 form maybe?, also agree that the Mk2 was a lovey looking motor, especially with the facelifted big bumpers, Mk4 & 5's are pleasant but boring looking however I'm hankering for a Mk6, jury's out on the Mk7 for me.
 
Just a note to say that if either of the lads intending to get theirs back on the road don't think they will in the end, let me know and I will lovingly do so with no expense spared :lol: :thumbsup: :driving:

I had a MkV when they came out due to them being very good value in France when they came out - a combination of High pound and lack of popularity for the model meant I had a brand new 5 door with a series of options that would have priced the car 7k more than I paid for it in the UK. Had 2 1/2 fantastic years with it .

I saw a Corrado VR6 on the road the other day....I used to lust after those. I'd still buy a golf today but perhaps an R32 over an R....

I'm pretty sure I recognise the Mk1 from way back, was it ever registered to a keeper somewhere around Walkford/Christchurch area of Hampshire/Dorset?

Got the car when I was working at Basingstoke remember when I first herd it coming up the motorway I had to have it the chap I got it from had owned it 15 years he was a mechanic at Toyota sold it to some one down that way he was in the
army This is what it looks like now

small print: I love what's been posted in this thread. Have wanted a 3 door mk2 for ages now but it was far too difficult to not post that meme on this thread!
 
Back in the 90's early 00's when the Golf Mark 1 &2 were all the rage i was a Peugeot 205 GTI boy, still got one tucked away in red that gets to come out of is garage once a year (doesn't drive any where) and is used for track days, once every 5 years or so! LOL
 
I had a MkV R32 and I still miss it. It had every option on it and was that deep pearl blue colour. Possibly my favourite car apart from my Corrado VR6. Also had a MkVI Golf GT and did have a MkVII GTI ordered and was due to collect it next month except I cancelled the order having lost some faith in the brand. I did find them to be great cars.
 
Well, I've been back fiddling with mine for the first time in ages and it's been moderately successful. Ecu is almost wired up so I'm hoping to get it started this week-weather permitting :headbang: (I'd almost forgotten how terrible the weather is in England)

Still loads to do beyond that though, everything from a full brake system overhaul to getting the bodies balanced and the map tweaked but the love is back-all it need is time. And money!
