vt2 -500 upgrade kit porn!! big update!!!

Who ever spends money blowing a 3.0 is crazy. May aswell buy an M!

So yours is a benchmark! - Interesting/nervous! is the 500bhp+ figure from state side cars? Or other S54 stage 2 blowers like the E46 M3?!

The kit makes 500bhp as a minimum, ess development s54 with 60k miles, completly unopened stock made 510 :-)

Once the car is complete it will have a thorough dyno sesion.

The word nervous is definatly one that springs to mind :-)
I am however really pleased with all the cooling gear the vt2 comes with!! Cant wait for the drive home!!

Excuse my grammer im using iphone.

Looks great. I bet the car is going to be great fun!

There are lots and lots of E46 M3s running around in the US. They are generally pretty reliable. There was a lot of sighs (o discontent) when BMW decided to go with an iron block on the S54 engines. The block added a lot of unwanted weight but is super strong and a great candidate for this type of setup as a result. Also of note the E46 M3 used the same exact transmission as the V10 M5. Not sure if the same unit is used on the ///MZ4, but if so it will handle a lot more torque than the engine makes in stock form.

These motors are the german 2jz .
Iron block and already forged bottom end..... Hpf throw double digit boost at these engines, this is where they fail. The guys in the us have been blowing the s54 for a decade, im just tapping into ther knowledge!

I cant lie i wish someone in the uk would follow me, then i can develop things with them......

Its rather nerve racking being the only one, z4m csl is pushing the n/ a envelope, it must be costing a fortune, i wish he was more active on here.

Beedub, I would like to think I will do the same and SC the Z4M I plan to get at the end of the year.... but you'll probably have to wait quite sometime. :(

I've been looking at the prices on the ESS website and was wondering if it's accurate to take the USD price as the final GBP price after adding customs and install costs?

This may be a silly question, but do you know if it is possible to program the SC to fully kick in only when the sport button is active? Something like that would be idle as it won't always put pressure on the engine all the time.

  • e46 M3 uses the same 6-speed Getrag manual (420G) in both non-SMG and SMG guises
  • e6x M5 uses a 6-speed Getrag manual (GS6-53BZ) or a 7-speed SMG (GS7S-47BG)
  • e8x Z4M uses a 6-speed Getrag manual (GS6-37BZ/DZ)

hi peddy..... Re the pricing, ill look into how much it cost when i did the vt1 upgrade, i do know that adding the import duty ect added a good chunk to the kit....

Re the Sport button, unfortunatly a s/c makes boost via pulley size, something that cant be determined via electrics so no BUT...... under 4k the engine see's NO boost at all, the 7.5psi pulley gradually builds boost and its very gentle on the motor, infact if you look at the dyno the graph looks like a higher version of the stock curve, motorway cruising, gentle pottering the engine see's no boost really, its only higher up she starts building boost, great as it keeps All the charater of the s54, i have to reach up high for the power, but get to 3900 ish and from their is pretty much awesome.

if you join the s/c fold, ill be a happy bunny!!

£6k you say. 8)

Don't like you having the only one, so somone's gonna have to do it. Surprised there's no Coupe yet.. :D If you see an Ad for a Gruppe M in the near future you know what I'm up to.

VT2 adds signigicant cost to vt1... with came in at around 6k, thats doesnt factor install, VT2 + install had made all this rather lofty... But as ive done it over a year and not all in once the cost is meanial to me, z4m csl MUST have spent 8k + getting his to 400 N/A hp, and fair play to him, im just doing it another way for slightly more gains.

the car should be ready friday but its taken a loonnngg time due to some fitment issues, simpson are having to custom some parts for perfect fitment, im happy they are taking the extra time to get this perfect, it means alot to me. The gauges are all plumbed in and working however, again they had fitment issues with my gauge pod, praying everything went/goes good, if their are any more problems, i wont be collecting the car till monday :-( BUT id rather have the car working properly and install perfect instead of rushing them......

I service the car yearly since the car was s/c'd.

Id love another uk z4m s/c, ive been the test pilot for a year and honestly it really is a plug and play kit, their are NO downside to the kit imo, its been everything ive wanted and more......

If anyone buys VT1 its the PERFECT base kit..... vt2 gets serious and requires lots of upgrades to the cooling system, you definatly need to think about gauges ect et

anyhow im picking this up friday hopefully, a nice long drive home will provide a great test drive for the car.

Beedub, I hope you`ve taken over where I left off and are constantly ringing Ant to see if it`s ready.

I remember ringing at 11pm the night before collection for the `Ring and the only reason Jullian answered the phone was he thought it was Ant ringing to see what he wanted from the pizza shop. :P

lol definatly, simpsons biggest weak point, they friggin never call, im ringing every single day to see when i can pick my car up, to the point where they seem to get rather annoyed with me, The standard of work is very high though, they WILL NOT release my car until they know i cant complain about anything... They have modded some of the ess parts that they werent happy with fitment on which says alot imo....... great workmanship, i genuinely feel my car is in good hands :-)

the ess e92 m3 they were working on was AWESOME, must have had 30k worth of parts!!!

wow i didnt Realise they work that late their :-) lol

Was that £6k all in for the VT1 including fitting? I do get a little bit tempted sometimes, but I don't think I use mine enough or find roads empty enough to enjoy the extra power.

No install ontop :-)

All in its pretty expensive, but no where as upgrading to a new car!!

With all these extra cooling items from now on...... Pulley and tune = more power.

Next year ill build the motor from top to bottom, and go for a 13psi pulley.

Keen to see how this goes. But in reality a vid does very little other than giving you a flavour. I'd like to see a GTBOARD.com esq. race against M3's, M6 etc.

im really excited also, i was hoping to pick the thing up today, so im getting slightly worried as were butting into the weekend :-(

anyway id rather them keep the car and it Be PERFECT than me rush them to im making it clear to them to take all the time they need....... After anthony has driven the car, dyno'd and boost checked it, then i'll be happy.

Im excited and very nervous at the same time as vt1 was completely trouble free, im hoping theis stage 2 will offer the same plug and play qualities......

install needs to be flawless for me to be happy, im a difficult customer and simpson know that.

Should * be picking this up tomorrow.......

its going to be a rainy trip down and back, no good for performance testing but ill update this tomorrow :-)

i could hear my car on the dyno aking loud explosions, lol, anthony said the car feels " very strong" and ill be very happy :-)

Very very excited!! its like picking up a new car again.

inspection 1 done, fastroad alignment done and camber set to -2.3 with the use of camber shims :-) ive been getting bad shoulder wear at the track....

Gauge pod complete, the will be re-checked tommorow, if all goes well i can take her home, AFRs and fueling is BANG on :-)

13psi!!! :o A very unlikey number!! :?
What figures would you be looking then?
Does ESS even provide that? I know they do 14psi on the 3.0's, but not seen anything for then M's in that range...

You could have had an R8 V10 by the time you've done all this. LOL

peddy i can ASSURE you this has been FAIR cheaper than buying an r8.......

Ess do a stage 3 kit runs 14psi ;-) so not to unlikely... im not pulling these figures from thin air ;-)

That is with a fully built motor.........

anyway im leaving as early as possible to get this thing. full update tomorrow after the car has been cleaned, im guessing its filthy after all the wet weather testing :-)
