When I was doing my "research" I noticed a few people moving over to vorti's from F1's with positive results. However Everyone's perception of a good tyre will ultimately be different.

I don't think you can go wrong with vorti or F1's

225/40/18 fronts and 255/35/18 on the rear.

The same sizes in F1's would of only been £50 more. I'm confident the vorti will do the business!

PS3 is the replacement for the Pilot Exalto and as such is more of a 'touring' tyre, not the replacement for the PS2 'performance' tyre.

PSS is the replacement for the PS2, but it's not available in many sizes that suit the Z4.

Goodyear F1A 2, or Conti SportContact 5 are not that far off the PSS in performance - although I don't know how they compare vs the PSS in durability.

In increasing performance it goes Exalto > PS3 > PS2 > PSS/F1A2/SC5 > PSCup+ > PSCup/PZero Corsa/A08R/R888

Thought so. However I also know from my investigations into M wheels for mine that people putting them on non-Ms use the standard 40/35 set-up and they fit fine. Think the M profiles are too big for non-Ms :?

Might go F1s all round if I can stretch to 4 tyres / can get a good deal, when the time comes.
 
Ooops, can't see it making much noticeable difference??

Thinking about some H&R springs to lower it now :)

You'll think you're travelling faster than you are as your speedo will over read. Smaller profile, smaller diameter, faster wheel rotation.

Also you'll have a bigger gap to arch so you'll have to lower the car too :D
 
Sounds like the perfect solution - cast iron reason to get the car lowered and slightly less chance of being caught speeding :lol:
 
I have now choice other then to lower the car now.

Btw I'm counting the lower profile as a mod! Lol
 
Tbh I have seen people complain about the standard M profile on tyres as they think it makes them look like balloons, so I don't think you'll be disappointed. Ride might me a tad harsher than you're used to, but I bet you won't notice it and lowering will cause that too anyway.

I have the Vortis in exactly the same size as you and after some experimenting with pressures I run 37 back 34 front.
When I first had them fitted there were no recommendations from the tyre manufacturer on tyre pressures and the fitters got it totally wrong. On here people were running Sessanta's at about 30 front and 32 rear. I tried these pressures but the Vortis didn't handle right.
Upping the pressures gives the car great feel and suits the firm chassis set up.
I love these tyres, I got the for 600 including a Hunter wheel alignment. Epic in the wet!
 
Now fitted :)

I was almost sideways leaving the garage, forgot how slippery new rubber is, especially in the rain.

Great purchase. When these first came out, they weren't available in sizes that would fit our cars (18's). Nice to see they came out with a full selection. When my Ultrac Sessanta's are done, these are going on (245/40 & 275/35). Can't wait for your review once they're broken in.
 
I really need to get some miles on the zed, hard when it's awful weather and you have a 640d at your disposal.

Just to add, i can't tell that the side profile is slight smaller then standard.
 
Got some miles on them and gave them a bit of a test today. So far so good, very happy.

Early days so not getting carried away. Will be back when I have more miles on them.
 
After a long blast I can feel tyres have bedded in some what and I give a bit of feedback.

I can't really give a full review as I'm not the best driver in the world (maybe 7th/8th) and for some reason my M had runflats on the back and OEM continentals on front.

I have driven these tyres in very very heavy rain at speed and pushed them reasonably hard on some twisty roads in dry conditions.

In the wet there was no drama, the car felt planted and stable at all times. No sign of aquaplaning despite seriously poor driving conditions.

In the dry the vorti soon gave me more confidence to really push the car. I was surprised at one point how much speed I was carrying through a corner! Driving with DSC off I noticed much improved grip when pulling away hard and in the bends the car behaved predictably (a hand full).

In general: Road noise was minimal and I haven't experienced any tramlining. Plus over all improved ride.

So to finish, so far so good. I would recommend these, this is not compared to my old set up but in their own right. Great value for money!

I bought my Z4 2.0i SE 2008 a few days back and want to change from RFTs, I am considering the Vredestein Ultrac Vortis thanks to you guys reviewing them.

However,

because I bought my car secondhand from a trader, I don't know whtehr the current tyres fitted are the correct spec in terms of overall dimension, can anyone help before I shell out a wedge and get it wrong?

Current RFT tyres are:

Front 225/40/18
Rear 255/35/18

Are these correct OEM sizes?
