Vredestein Ultrac Vorti to replace run flats?

Hi All,

Apologies if this has been done to death!

After 2 years ownership I have finally cracked one of my 326M 19" rims. I understand that these wheels are notorious for cracking. I don't wish to swap the 326Ms for after-markets but would like to minimise the possibility of cracking again.

Firstly, is changing the OEM run flats for non run flats really likely to make a difference?
Secondly, if it worth changing to non-run flats then does anyone have real world experience of the Vredestein Ultrac Vorti? I heard these are good for a mid-range?

Fantastic tyre, I would highly recommend them, quiet, very grippy, decent wear rate and well priced, premium performance at mid range price :thumbsup:
 
Yep had a couple of sets of Vredestein on the Zed in the past. Good tyres for the price. :thumbsup:
 
Changing the runflats to normal tyres will help but those 326 wheels can still crack despite this :cry:

Thought that might be the case! Difficult to know whether it's worth ditching perfectly serviceable run flats for the vreds. Presumably there are other benefits to normal tyres? I see a lot of people have ditched the run flats.

Ride quality is greatly improved with normal tyres, they don’t have rock hard sidewalls like the rf’s and apart from saving the rims they also save your back.

Yep I run the Ultrac Vorti’s all round on the Z4, this after running them for several years on the M3. You will find tyre snobs who have never tried them will diss them but for me there is no better bang for your buck.

No absolute guarantee they will prevent 326’s from cracking in the future but they sure will have an easier time.
 
I ran for a year on the vorties on my 35i and think they are a great tyre. Good grip in all weathers and never let go once even when pushing them in the wet :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
 
I have them on my 23i right now, excellent tyres, changed from RFT's and they are quieter and also (subjectively) improved the ride quality. Don't expect miracles though, the Z is still a sports car after all!

Would happily buy again. Excellent value for money.
 
I changed from run flats to Ultrac Vortis great tyre Quiet Grippy and put the car on rails since then I changed to Michelin sports but to be honest the difference is marginal I will happily go back to Vredsteins when the time is due.

Ran Vredi’s on lots of fwd cars. Was going to put them on the Z4 but only about £40/£50 difference between them and MPS4’s as they had a deal on at the time.

Hopefully you’ll not have to buy a new 326, I got a brand new set of 19” 276’s for less than 1 new 326 :o
 
Crikey you're right! £61.50 for the fronts and £126 for the rears for the 276's. I have 326's currently and dread all potholes, how on earth can there be so much difference in prices!!

If you do decide to sell the remaining three, make sure you post - wouldn't hurt to have a front and rear spare I guess.

On my 23i I had early 296’s which are terrible for cracking and needed a refurb so I looked at replacing with something. Came across a post on here saying 276’s could be had for £650, I swithered, then decided I would and found them for just over £500 so bit the bullet and ordered along with a set of Michelin MPS4S’s

Got them just as lockdown happened so never fitted them. Changed the car after my shielding finished with the 296’s still on them.

Bought the 35iS with 326’s and new RFT’s fitted so took them off when I got the car home and put on the 276’s and the new Michelin’s

So I don’t have 3, I’ve got 4 good condition 326’s with new tyres which are tucked up safely in the garage to go back on it when I sell it.

All purely preventative and may seem excessive to some but at £645 for one replacement I’m quids in already and have a full set of undamaged 326’s :thumbsup:

I also like the looks and simplicity of cleaning of the 276’s
