Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta(I know, sorry!)

I have them on mine and although they took quite a while to bed in they seem fantastic now. You can't compare them to top end Michelin's though, but then again a full set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports go for more than a low end Zed! (joke... sorta!)
 
I've had these Vreds on for about 2.5 years now, including around 5 Ring trips, 30+ laps and a session on the GP circuit, driven in some atrocious weather and honestly can't fault them.

Another set will be going on once these are done.
 
Got Vreds all round on my MR. Replaced the Conties with them. Took a few hundred miles before I had any grip. But much prefer them. :thumbsup:
 
Have them on my MR and honestly cant fault them,totaly agree that they need a good couple of hundred miles to bed in or as I did a few
standing starts with the traction control off :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :oops: :driving: .
 
Just changed my fronts from Michelin's to Vreds..... Love it, ride a lot smoother, more feedback, very impressed. Now have Vreds all round and a very happy bunny :D

I really like my Avons but others say they're pants; toematterrr, tomato...
 
I wanted to get the Avons zz3 I liked the look and read good reviews. Unfortunately they don't do them in 255/30 x19" so can't have them. I am now looking at Falkens but if my tyre guy comes back with a decent price on the vredesteins I will have them. I have heard nothing but good things.
 
Witch Hankooks Stuart as some are very reasonable on the price front. I discounted them as I ve not heard anything about them? I nearly for a split second said yes to Nankang's but no no no!! Had them on the rear not a lot of grip!
 
Other tyres that might also offer good value for money should be the Falken FK453 (if judging from the popularity of the previous FK452), the new Vredestein Ultrac Vorti (not a lot of sizes available though) and the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT (although more expensive than the others mentioned).

I have Super Sports on mine and just did two days at the 'ring on them. Very impressed so far. Though you should bear in mind it was my first track day in the M and conditions were pretty challenging so I certainly wasn't pushing to find the absolute limit.

Am looking to get a second set of wheels for track day tyres and considering Avon ZZR which are getting rave reviews, and are quite reasonably priced for R compound tyres.
 
tertius, a mate used to have Kumho V70 semi-slicks on his track wheels and was happy with their bang/buck. He now runs Hankook Z214's which are practically slicks.
 
Yes, V70s get good reviews, and they are also on my list. I'm interested in the ZZRs as they are a new tyre, compared to most R tyres which are getting a little long in the tooth now. This year it is the control tyre for the various Lotus championships and is already seconds per lap quicker than the previous control tyre the Yokohama A048.

I've used Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, R888s and A048s so far, though none on the M yet. I also used Hankook RS2 and although it was dirt cheap, and very good in the dry it was diabolical in the wet.

And yes the ZZR isn't made in anything bigger than an 18
 
Also consider the Hankook Z221s. And there's a replacement for the A048, the A050 but i think with very limited availability. Oh and they've just announced the Cup 2 and recently the Dunlop Sport Maxx Race (their Michelin Cup competitor).
 
I have Vreds on my road wheels (CSLs) although I wouldn't use them on the track. I think they are the best tyres in their price band with respect to grip, but they're pretty noisy on the motorway. I agree that they certainly take a while to settle in - as has been said already, hundreds of miles or tens of feet with the rears spinning :evil: I don't exceed their capabilities on the road in the wet or dry so overall I'm very happy with them.
