Volvo straight six - interesting

I quite like that

Though the MPG and running costs section of the article says nothing about either

Just saw that Volvo v60 has a turbo straight six, wonder if it's related to bmw or just en extra cylinder on their inline 5?

http://m.autocar.co.uk/car-review/volvo/v60-polestar

Volvo has had a v60 I6 for quite some time now (V60T6)
(it's of volvo design, but build by ford)

This polestar is a souped up version. Very expensive, but a brembo bbk as stock and Ohlins shocks.
Still too expensive (almost m3/rs4 money), and I have doubts if the claimed 350hp is there. I've seen acceleration tests (not from the polestar, but from the t6 with polestar tuning claiming the same power) that does 0-200 in +19sec. or so. That is fast but not 4wd-350hp fast (the 0-100 goes smoothly though)

From this polestar version they are going to make only a few (1000pc or so), so volvo also realises that the price is high/not competative.
The 1000pc or so you can always sell to the richest volvo fanatics.

Realisticly it's more an alternative for a S4 or a 335i, but then loaded with goodies for a very very high price.

Biggest marketing mistake they've made is that they first introduced the world press to their 500hp s60. That car was faster than a 63amg etc.
But when you then tune it down 150hp.... that's a marketing no-no

It's obviously not man maths sensible at £50kish, but a daily driver q car for say £15k (after x years depreciation) would be an interesting alternative.

Until your shocks are worn and have to ring up Ohlins for a new pair....
That would financially total the car
I'd go for the used m3/335i/rs4/S4

In essence this is a cheap car; the v60/s60 T6 is/was probably the cheapest 300hp+ car in that segment in stock trim.
The difference between the polestar and the T6 is smaller than the difference between a 335i and an m3, speaking from a technical pov

The one thing that speaks for this car is its rarety. And it is rare because volvo won't be able to sell 10's of thousends of pieces (like the m3, let alone the 335i) due to the price/performance ratio.
Basically it's a competitor for a nicely specced 335i with a bbk&coilovers (and a jb4 maybe), so that's about 5k worth of extra mods.
On the other hand a 435i with msport package (looks) and msport plus package (brakes&rims) already costs 45k so that's already near 50k money. Throw in the coilovers and some extra's (the polestar is fully specced) and you're there.

I'd have one if it was available in beige... :oldman:
I'd obviously have to get the seats retrimmed in brown corduroy too
Surely that should either be standard or a no-cost option...

...might have to splash out on some wooden beaded seat covers though... really helps me lumbago...

But if your willing to wait for the right car to come up - i.e. Beige with brown interior, then your wait might be over.....

Not sure if Polestar do an ECU map for these...

Wow it's not flimper neither, it's a deluxe :D
£1k for the 244 and £49k to do it up to v60 polestar spec, now that is a project :driving:

@Sae - For real! Love that site, there some stupid, ridiculous volvos on there but if you look hard enough there are some subtle oem+ ones. Also some sleepers such as the 244 but with a v8 conversion....why not?

They're certainly different, my dad had two 240s including a beige one and then a 740, which was the first car I drove after getting my license, nice big cruisers but just way too heavy to be nifty.

That's going back quite a few years, around the time when the 740R estate was in the BTCC :)

Like wise grew up with volvos in the family. 164 deluxe, 264GLE x2, 740 &940 turbos. The 740 was a special edition white with black trim, manual pushing out 185bhp back in 87 that was a big power! They are a little marmite but would love to do a retro revival of some sort......oh yeah Bo Zoland a graphics guy who has we sketched up some very cool low riders....
