Should my idrive pro system be able to read aloud my sms messages? While trying and fiddling about I also tried to "SaveName" in the telephone system and it doesnt seem to want to do that either - Is it just me missing something I wonder.

The system makes and receives telephine calls ok.

There's a question... my car will read aloud messages, BMW Live news, RSS feeds etc. However I know others that have iDrive and don't get this. Your title says voice control however, voice control is when you speak to the car, not the other way around.

I believe it's down to the individual phone. There's a link to compatibility for Bluetooth and phones on the BMW website that calls out supported features

My Samsung Galaxy looks like only partial integration from that list - I am due a phone upgrade in Nov and will choose more wisely at that time.

Looking at the choice I'm bamboozled! Has anybody any idea what does intrgrate best of all? :?

I'd guess an iPhone is probably a safe bet as the car's iDrive supports it as a media player. The problem with the website etc is if they've not kept it up to date with software updates for the car...

I thought thats what would come out of this ! Ive always shied away from th iPhone but as BMW seem to worked around the product others must be a comprimise solution.
I'll survive 'til November (update time) - I'm sure I will be able to add a voice dial tag somehow.
