Voice control

Why does my voice control on my e89 only say that i have no contacts in my phone book? No matter what command i give it from the manual i get the same voice command back, i have stored some numbers in my phone book or what i believe is my phone book. Whats the issue with my voice control?, i have idrive, nav, combox... but the voice control does respond to any command except "no contacts....."

If it's any consolation my voice control says the same, I just presumed it was just crap lol

I only use it to close the display when driving at night and I don’t want the light from the screen distracting me, it’s pants otherwise :lol:

Mine is linked as a shortcut to the channel 8 button on the radio, then you tap the idrive knob to raise it....

Yep, it works fine as long as you speak the Queens English. So, not so good for those in Wales, boyo..... oke:

Woah ...... how do you do that ?

In the drive menu you find the close screen option, scroll down till that option is highlighted then press and hold the tuning button you want linked to it for around 7 seconds or so. I also use 7 to switch between day and night in navigation.

Pretty much any option in any menu can be programmed this way. I have directions to home and work set to two buttons. Go to recent addresses, highlight the one you want then press and hold as above.

The voice control on mine just says it can’t understand. It doesn’t matter what I say or how clearly I say it it doesn’t understand. So I just program the buttons too.
8 to close the display, 7 night mode, 1 journey computer, 2 phone home, 3 navigate to home etc..
