Voice control / folding mirrors: where to buy

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me where I can order the voice control and/or folding mirrors for my Z4MC from? Have just spoken to my local dealer, and they've quoted me around £700-£800 for each  They said something about the voice control system requiring a £300 code from BMW... Does that make any sense? Would love to get both things fitted to my car, and I imagine i'd be up to the fitting part - it's just having something to fit without an empty wallet that seems to be the problem! They're practically the only factory options missing from my car.

Thanks!

Mirrors are something I looked into and somewhere on one of the sites is a 'how to' but as far as I could tell it's new mirrors from a dealer (or a wrecker) and then you also need a control module that slots in unde the dash somewhere and some wiring. I decided against as it was going to be a £1000 project. Considered buying motors alone but the entire mirror inners is a single component, so no joy that route.

Voice control - Not sure what you mean. Retrofit of bluetooth, etc. and voice control from that?? If you have that fitted and the dealer is just talking coding then it looks like he's after 3.5hours labour for something.

Thanks cj10jeeper. So it's a dealer-or-wreckers choice - no other 3rd party sources? On that note, whats the best way to find out what sort of stock wreckers have - good old yellow pages (to find them in the first place) and phone calls?

Voice control, as far as i'm aware, semi-piggybacks the bluetooth module (that I already have) to make use of the steering column-mounted microphone, but to detect what you 'say to the car' and perform the relevant response. Apparently, it works with both the nav and phone, as well as offering a voice notepad/recorder and some generic functionality e.g. "show map", "find hotel", "dial number" (or name), "volume up"... Here's the best info I can find (X5), which I assume is closely related/the same as the Z4's system: http://www.x5world.com/articles/x5/electronics-x5/9411-voice-recognition-module-installation-diy.html

I never found a third party source (but didn't look hard) Breakers. Some advertise on Ebay as mock auctions of a wheel nut, etc. Others int eh back of any BMW magazine.

Funnily enough on the voice control I fitted a full bluetooth retrofit in my X5 but not doen anythign about the voice activation. Have one on order from bimmerbav for the Z4 that supposedly supports voice control. It was shipped this week.

Might be worth you contacting bimmernav http://www.bimmernav.com to see what they suggest for a Z4. Martin is helpful and has all the bits you could dream of for BMW's
