Vmax and tyre pressure

Heading over to vmax200 tomorrow and was wondering if I need to adjust my tyre pressure. I assume not given not that much heat would be generated on single runs.... Any thoughts??
 
Tyre pressures should be raised for high speed runs. Usually run the pressures recommended for a fully laden vehicle. If you want to chase mph, then you can raise them even more to help reduce some drag, but there is a balance between that and overinflating and reducing stability.

However, happy to trade advice (and have a head-to-head run perhaps - got my Drift cams charged and ready) as I'll be there tomorrow also :)

My car is fully standard, so head to head would be a good way to gauge the improvement from your cams.

Would pressures of 35 rear 34 front be about right?

Look forward to some head to heads, although not sure how much I want to hammer the clutch!
 
Cams were cameras, not camshafts. :D Though I do have a CSL intake, exhaust and Alpha-N tune which would be good to measure up! Agree on the clutch though, but some rolling starts on the main runway will save that!

Ah I see. It should be interesting, rolling starts would be perfect. Cant wait to hear your csl intake!

how did he do as he has carbon airbox and tune!! did he pull away as you'd expect or not really?
 
From looking back at the vids;

Run 1 - Sixspeed win (Viren + passenger, sixspeed no passenger)
Run 2 - Sixspeed win (Viren + passenger, sixspeed no passenger)
Run 3 - Viren win (passenger in both cars)
Run 4 - Sixspeed win (Viren + passenger, sixspeed no passenger)
Run 5 - Sixspeed win (Viren + passenger, not sure if sixspeed had a passenger on this run)
Run 6 - Viren win (Sixspeed + passenger, Viren no passenger)

Overall the two cars were very close up till around 5th gear (or 140-150). Sixspeed appeared to have the legs to go on a bit more (on average the top speeds were 162 for Viren and 164/5 for sixspeed, these are actual speeds, laser measured at the event).

We weren't sure whether this was as a result of sixspeeds csl box and exhaust or the aero from sixspeeds car being lowered (maybe someone on the forum would know more on what would drive the top end difference).

Also not sure if sixspeeds remap removes the 155 limiter (my car is completely standard so the limiter is still there, I think I felt this come in, but felt more like a soft limit).

Really pleased with how the zed did on the day, although I remember being up against the bugatti. He must have left 10 seconds after me and just before I approached the end speed trap (around 160 mph) the bugatti went past me doing 225mph :o

Hopefully we can get the vids edited and on youtube soon!

Yep, I actually saw this happen on a live TV screening, was very sad. Just hope the guys are ok, makes you realise how dangerous this can be.

The guy is ok, roll cage saved him from what I can gather on the MKIV forum. Running tyres rated at 180mph but doing 215 apparently. Tyre stripped from the rim and threw the car.

Apparently an R888 rated to 186mph failed when he was running at 215mph. It sounds like driver and passenger escaped with cuts and bruises thanks to the roll cage.
 
Glad to hear, thought something in the engine blew as the bonnet appeared to 'pop' up, rears lock and then car spin. 200mph is seriously fast, so would hope the car would have been preped for that sort of speed.
 
I don't think there is any definite news available yet, but the consensus on the Supra forum (from people claiming to know him) was that above.
 
I'm not registered so I can't read the build thread but it must have been pretty special to hit 215mph!
