Visiting south coast... what to do?

So on a whim I've booked a lodge nr eastbourne to get away for new year for a few days. Anyone know any decent things to do in the area. Could visit Brighton etc. Just wondered if anyone knew the area. A mate suggested a trip to Rye so might look at that... I'm expecting it to be cold so the usual coastal activities are off the radar.....

Might even take the Z :) lol

Swimming is a refreshing experience this time of year :D

Rye is a lovely little town. Conveniently lifted at the right end of the Military Road across the marshes - one of the best 2 or 3 mile stretches of hooning road in the locale, with a few others round that area down towards Camber :driving:

... where on our last run there we had a speed check :D

Seven Sisters road is a must for driving as well though and if you need to walk off that Christmas turkey, you can walk along the coast as well.

In case you get blown off the cliffs, please remember Bing wants your red M.

Brighton gets the  from me.
Visit the Wetherspoons that has views across the Marina. Also many restaurants there.
Also worth a walk around "The Lanes".

Driving into Brighton sucks nowadays though - 20mph speed limits everywhere, and worse the parking charges are apparently astronomical :(

Yeah my gran and sister live in Brighton so know about the marina and the lanes..... when I was a lad I would go on the volks railway along the sea front... :) Brighton is a likely trip as the good woman has never visited there

Is Hastings worth a trip does anyone know? Any stuff to see about the famous battle?

Wasn't that impressed when we drove through it a few weeks back on the Z trip. Perhaps I was not looking hard enough :D

A bit naff. When we went the harbour area was full of kids smoking dope and being generally unpleasant. The whole place felt a bit scruffy to me.

Agreed...makes Bournemouth look like St Tropez.
