Not for me, but not as bad as some designs. One of the members has a pair or subtle stripes that look good

Looks wrong. It just clashes too much with the badge and grill and does nothing for the lines of the car.
If I ever wanted stripes similar to that (not that I would) they'd have to follow the shape more, probably something similar to how the creases on the M bonnet are angled, they'd then flow over the coupe's roof better. (infact I'm off to look for a suitable top down photo...)

Wider and further apart-maybe mid grill. I like herminator's idea and they are nice a subtle.

Personally, I love the first one! I think it looks great! Really adds some aggression to the car. I don't care for the second one as it just looks odd to me. One thing I'd add to the first one that I've been thinking about since seeing on a track car posted somewhere last week is a side stripe along the rocker panel. It adds so much definition to the car as it really shows off the curvature. Let me see if I can find it. Now stripe a white coupe for me. :D

Here's the car.

Don't quite know why but I've always thought the Z4 and stripes really don't go. I mean the car is a similar shape to the Viper so you'd think it should be ok but it just looks wrong. Maybe its just that its so unusual to see a Z4 with stripes . . .

Bit of a waste of time in my view; they've been done to death already, don't suit the lines of the car, and aren't applicable to BMW's from a heritage point of view.

If you want stripes, get these: -
