Vintage brake fluid..?

After reading the manual to figure out another problem, I learned that I can also check when my brake fluid is due for replacement....

"Oil change 15,160 mls" Press the button: "2.09"

Well, that would be 2 years after the car was built. It's a March '07, now with 26k miles.

According to the log, it had an Inspection II at 12k miles in July 2011
and another Inspection II at 23k miles in Feb 2015

The log shows a brake fluid change on both services but neither were at an official BMW franchise.

What do you reckon, folks? :?

Must have been changed otherwise your braking would feel awful, i'm sure. They may not have reset the timer though.

Not a chance under normal conditions. Only when you get the fluid hot enough to boil the water content .
The water content In the unchanged fluid then leads onto sticking pistons in the callipers - but that's a longer term prospect.

Change it yourself if you want peace of mind.

Never done that. I imagine the procedure is outlined on here somewhere.

I was wondering why, if the service indicator has been reset which it must have been if still showing 12k miles to the next oil change, the brake timer was not reset too...

If the fluid hasn't been changed, is there anything that needs checking?

It is a bit odd as the indicator isn't hard to reset either through the dash or with INPA.
Bleeding is pretty easy, you can do it with a jack and a single stand. Get a one-man bleed it and if you can get a wheel off you can do a change. As to checks, aside from the colour of the fluid coming out you can't really check much else without dismantling.
