View BMW UK Z4 recalls on line - Including Steering

I saw the Watchdog feature on BMW Mini steering failures last night and checked out RecallUk.com which seems to have a database of official recalls on all UK vehicles, including 3 for E85/6 and E89. I've not seen it beforehand. The E85 steering one may be of interest to someone but says it only covers 699 cars in the UK (not including mine). Not sure what year/model they refer to but it's weird how they can narrow it down to short batches of VIN numbers, is it a particular spec/engine or dodgy batches of a component? :?

The really interesting feature is the acceptance that the increased steering effort is dangerous, despite the steering still working, this is contrary to what BMW have apparently told some owners affected by sticky steering in the past.

BMW Z4 power steering may fail.
Recall Issue
BMW has found that on some BMW Z4s variations in electrical current within the EPS can lead to sudden loss of power steering assistance.
Sudden loss of power steering assistance may increase the steering effort required to control the direction of the car, increasing the risk of a crash.
BMW is recalling the affected BMW Z4s and replacing the steering box.

Nothing that needs doing on mine, but then the dealer knows I'm a picky sod and they check for recalls every time I go in ;)

You'd think the DVLA could easily administer this by alerting owners directly. A small charge to BMW and Bob's your Uncle!

STOP PRESS! the data on recalluk.com is confusing. I've just run some of the list of Z4 steering recall VIN numbers through two VIN decoders which show they relate to various 3 Series E91/2 Diesels. Both the decoders get my VIN right so I assumed they are correct and this recall list wrong.

The last 7 characters seem to be the unique part of a VIN,

I contacted recalluk.com who immediately replied as below

The VIN information we quote is the same as that used by VOSA and is supplied by the manufacturer. Where a recall spans multiple models it is not always (usually even) possible to split the VIN numbers by model. In these cases we show all of the VINs ranges against all of the affected models. So if a recall covers the 3 series and Z4 then the VIN ranges for both models may be shown under both models, if you see what I mean.
There is always the potential for error but these would be rare.
Hopefully this makes sense.
