videos of my new exhaust

hi guys,

some of you may remember i posted some clips on z4um of my exhaust system that made a farting sound at times, well, i've replaced my midpipes with mandrel bent ones and added a crossover H-pipe as well.

its alot quieter at idle now :(

but louder at all other times i think. the farting noise has also been eliminated.

what do you think? i kinda miss the burbling exhaust at idle though....

headers perhaps? :D

The new one sounds much better while driving BUT much inferior to the older one at idle...it seems to have a REALLY annoying whirling whine at idle...

the new one sounds much less Z4 like..

thanks guys! oh yeah, credit must go to GVfB for the crossover pipe idea. it did help with low rpm drone somewhat. i say this because it helped only at idle.... there's still droning under all other driving conditions... :P oh well.

anyway, here's a pic of my old exhaust setup:

replaced the old crushbent, smaller diameter midpipes with slightly larger diameter mandrel bent ones.

the crossover pipe was quite a ghetto setup. he burnt 2 holes on the inner sides of my beautiful mandrel bent darlings, then unceremoniously welded a pipe in between...ta da, "H-pipe" :x oh well......

louis - sounds nice!!!

That H-connection sure did a lot!

What cats are you running? Stock exhaust manifold? Is your car LHD or RHD again?

It sure has been a while! Nice to "speak" to ya again...

As it happens, I'm testfitting a new exhaust system tomorrow.

Will keep you posted!

Did you do the 3.0 conversion after all?

GVfB,

yeah, its great to have found you active on another forum at last! i thought this thread might get your attention! :D

 i'll start another thread on the conversion, with pics and all for anyone interested in this as well. but first, i've gotta get me some photoediting software to blank out my registration plate. :driving:

in the meantime, if you're on facebook, i could PM you a link to my profile and stash of pics on my conversion.

GVfB,

alright! exhaust shoot out!!

i think the lack of low rpm drone was due to the H-pipe but the increased volume and absence of farting i would think are also partly helped by the increased exhaust diameter.

my car is RHD. my exhaust system is like this:

stock exhaust manifold with integrated cats -> midpipes-> H-pipe -> ACS muffler

have you seen my dynograph on the other video thread i started? my power curve plateaus after 5900rpm still despite this custom exhaust setup and my supercharger... i'm thinking that the exhaust manifold with cats are the bottleneck although it could well also be my exhaust cams and/or cylinder head exhaust ports as well....
