This video is taken from my Z4 that seems to have developed a bit of a screeching noise when accelerating and then it seems to fade away. Initially i thought it was going to be either the alternator belt or the compressor belt, however, today i sprayed them both on the inside with copious amounts of wd40 just to see which one it was.....it made little or no difference. I hear not a squeak when under the bonnet, it only seems to start when i am driving which makes it all the more difficult to pinpoint.

Any suggestions welcome.

It sure sounds like a belt, have you tried just revving the engine with the bonnet up to see if you can pinpoint where it's coming from.

Can't think of anything else, maybe someone will come up with a solution

Yeap, it doesn't seem to make the noise unless its under acceleration/load. If nobody has any ideas then i will replace both the comp and alt belt but just spent a load of cash getting another "clunk' on the drive shaft sorted :headbang: and want to make sure before i go ahead.

Could be Stuart, i guess there is only one way to find out. I remember doing a belt and checkin g the tensioner on an old vectra of mine, it was dead easy but the z4 is a pig to get at.

So eventually got to the route of the problem after changing both belts and tensioner it turns out it was the air intake box vibrating on top of the alternator, the screeching noise that can be heard in the video was the noise of the air intake box moving in its mounts.

Who would have thought eh.... ?

Still st least im screech free now :driving:
