Video at the Ring! (Question)

Ok, so this is a tease.
As you may remember I was in Germany for a class.
While I was in Germany I snuck down to the Nordschleife & did 2 laps. (FREAKING AWESOME)
I did take video.

My question is this....for uploading the vid to youtube....Is it customary to edit out other peoples license plates if I make the video public?

This is where my teaser ends for now. I will do a much more complex write up with pics and links to vids of my Germany excursions later on, but I am way to swamped with just returning home to do that.

Nah wouldn't bother, would u care if some one didn't edit out yours?

X2
i'm in the in-car video business and I never bother..... besides, how long and what sort of high end video editing equipment would you need.

Never bother blanking out plates on video or photos - although tend not to take as much anymore anyway.

Was your camera hidden well, or did the marshals simply not bother looking? I'm asking because there's supposed to be a relaxing of the 'no video camera' rule and want to know for sure before I buy a shiny new GoPro for my next visit.

I looked at getting a GoPro to record my racing but for the money I thought I would experiment a bit first. Downloaded a dash cam app for 69p and run it in the car when racing. Its never going to compete with Dario's equipment but for 69p see what you think to quality & sound capture:

No editing just as they came off the camera

Tommo, good to see that your plans have been a success  I hadn't realised there are that many E36 BMWs left in the world!

The videos look good, at least on my phone anyway. Are they from an iPhone? What mount did you use?

I've used my iPhone with Harry's LapTimer, but the picture is a bit jumpy and you can't really stick the iPhone to the front bumper/wing for external shots - hence the wish for a GoPro.

BTW, I was looking for you (TommoTwo) at Oulton on Monday, but you didn't seem to be there :poke:

yea iPhone 5, mounted in a 99p ebay phone holder, cable-tied to some bent ally and clamped to the cage with an old exhaust bracket.

With the way some guys drive them the numbers are dropping fast! :driving:

Does that do times and gps overlay aswell? I found when using the gps to get the speed in the vid it slows it down and makes it a bit jerky so don't bother.

You can't beat a GoPro for quality, ease of use and they have so many mounting acsessories you can put them anywhere, I just couldn't justify one for my needs.

Unfortunatly had to miss Oulton, with there being a race this weekend at my most local track on the calender and I cant afford to do 2 race meets in one week, so Oulton got dropped. The Lean Mean Racing guys did really well from what I saw on FB.

With me being a Newb and not knowing any tracks or the car verywell (yet) I spend a bit of time deuling it out with the Class D guys, I'm faster in a straight line with the extra engine size but lacking in ball size in the corners atm where they are faster than me!

It records the data separately to the video, and then you have the choice of merging/overlaying the data afterwards - and you can use different sensors for different things (i.e. OBD sensor for throttle position, AFR, etc.; GPS sensor for more accurate/frequent positioning data).

There's a Class A guy in the same situation - he powers out of the corners but gets eaten up (in the way) in the braking areas/bends.

Had a bit of light polishing to do to remove some paint/tyre marks down both sides of the car though :P

Would love to go to Thruxton, but it's just too far from Liverpool for the weekend.

Yea few chaps I was talking to do at a few track days had similar setups with the OBD plugin, one chap even ran it with a live in car display.

I'm not quite as slow in the corners but very simialar situation to myself (but with a bigger budget!) white M3 E46 i presume? I got exited at Snetterton when I put a couple of mooves on him up the inside only for him to come blasting past on the straights! I think I bent the loud pedal pushing it so hard........... NEED MORE POWER! :headbang:

The Kumho racers traiding paint........... noooooo! :?

Croft is next after Thruxton, thats up your way isn't it?

OP where is this vid btw?

Croft is Darlington, and I'm in Liverpool, so it's closer to me than Thruxton but is still 2.5 hours away.

Oulton, Donington, Anglesey are my 'local' circuits and ones I visit a few time a year - all being within 90 minute's drive.

Aintree, Three Sisters, Curborough are also close enough, but are not as 'major' so tend to have less activity on.

I never even got a glance at the car that I saw. Much less anyone looking for a camera. I had my mount positioned between the seats under the roll bars. I'll take a quick pic of where it is at.
