Vibration on clutch pedal

Hi all,

Why aren't things ever just fine? Just after you fix one thing something else pops up.

I think I have an issue but not sure what it could be. I've noticed a vibration on the clutch pedal when in gear. If I put my foot lightly on the pedal when driving along I can feel a vibration. The clutch seems fine. Pulls in all gears etc.

Do you think it could be mounts or a sign that the clutch is on its way out?
 
could be a few things from the description including the Dual mass flywheel, are there any noises or just vibration?
 
Not any noises at the moment but I'll keep an eye out.

I do have the classic bmw rumble in neutral that goes if you put the clutch in.
 
If it is clutch, DMF related can I still drive it without causing serious damage? Don't have the time or space to change it all at the moment.
 
Just spoke to my Indy and he thinks (by my verbal description over the phone) that it could be the dreaded DMF!
 
Looks like LUK DMF and Valeo clutch kit from Car parts for less come to £379.72. Are these parts any good?
 
On most DMF failures you do get a bit of noise as well as vibration so it may well be something else. However that said if its something that requires the gearbox to come out such as the pressure plate as someone else suggested it would be a false economy to not replace the DMF if doing the clutch and other bits. Thankfully the DMF aren't as expensive as they once were, I bought last week a DMF and Clutch kit for A 2012 318D for a something like £380 for the same brand parts BMW use. Please dont go anywhere near BMW for the parts or your into a good £500 on top for the same actual bits.
Hopefully it might be something that doesn't require the box out such as a bush or something rubbing etc.

Both of these are quality brands used by many manufacturers from the factory. Your into probably circa 5 hours labour to do the job, but get it properly diagnosed before spending any money!

Yes... well the "clutch pressure plate" , but as you're in there, it's wise to change the disc as well and check the DMF , although I don't think it's the DMF going by your description.

DMF induced vibrations are not normally felt through the pedal afaik, usually as you are going up through the gears 1st and 2nd gear with clutch engaged !
 
Oh I do hate cars sometimes!!

Is there a risk of catastrophic damage if I keep driving it (use it for commuting) or will it just get worse and eventually just stop working, not able to get in gear etc?

If I end up with the box off then I may as well replace it all as won't want to be doing that again!
 
depending on whats wrong if its the clutch or dmf you should be fine driving it for a while at least
 
Not an expert (yet) on mechanics of these cars but if the vibration is only felt when you rest your foot on the clutch pedal when driving this doesnt sound like anything serious to me and nothing more than movement in the thrust mechanism. My answer would be to not rest your foot on the peddle when driving and worry about it if its evident when changing gear.
 
Only just rested it on there to feel the vibration. Wouldn't normally do that. I'll keep going and see what happens. I'll get it up on ramps too and see if anything else in the drive train looks odd.

Agree. Vibrations felt on my 25k mile GTD when resting foot, so i don't..

If all your getting is a little vibration when touching the pedal i wouldnt worry too much
