Very rusty Z4

it must be some kind of surface damage to cause that rusting? looking at the front bumper it has had A LOT of stone chips assuming the arches had the same, so either driven over dirt road? or something with loose rocks/gravel on to contribute to chipping in the arches/front bumper which then gave water a clear path to the metal and started rusting.

I don't think I've seen another zed with as much body rust. Even high mile motorway cruisers look in better shape.
 
Its a miley 14yr old BMW, some do rust badly..

The equivalent age E46's rusted really badly too,seen holes in arches and sills...
 
It's back on EBay now. My mate has a 75000 mile 2003 silver Z4 and his has started rusting in the same areas. He bought his from Scotland and the car has been there all its life and I assume never or hardly ever garaged. I know Scotland has a reputation for raining a lot so maybe the damp has just set in to the panels. He got it quite cheap considering the mileage. I think I would have walked away though if I was thinking of buying it.

Still, this one looks like it has been parked on a beach for the most of its life.
I've never seen rust on a z4 before, and this one looks pretty worn in a lot of places. The flaking paint on the bumper and the discolored rear lights also show its hard life. Apart from the huge dent and missing headlight washer caps.
Lots of rust and corrosion on the bolts and aluminium parts in the engine bay too. And loads of nicks in the interior. This is just a very tired car that led a hard life. Worst I've seen.
 
I've had 15 e46s and I think 12 of them had rust on all 4 Arches. Never seen a z4 in that poor condition though. Looks like it's had dodgy paint prep in the past.
 
There have been a few seeds on here with rust. Probably same issue as E46's where crap gets caught between the arch and the liner, then with movement starts rubbing away the protection.
 
Im afraid mine is starting to rust on the arches too, I've had the liners out and treated the inside where the liner has rubbed the coating off but its starting to bubble on the outside. When it was first registered it lived by the sea so may be some truth in costal cars rusting....
Some slight surface rust on the underside but nothing major.
 
Regarding the rust - I really don't think running on snow tyres all winter would have helped - I did a 50 mile lap of the M60 everyday come rain or snow and to be honest didn't wash it as much as I should have.

The seller has got the suspension wrong - its standard apart from eibach springs.

The front bumper was a replacement second hand so not all the stone chips were mine! The damage on the bumper was sustained whilst I had to park on high curb everyday for 4 months. The washer caps missing are due to my incompetence when I put the bumper on - the faded lights are actually clear rears that have been tinted and definitely could do with a re-tint.

You get the idea - I'm not touching my new car!

Anyway, as the advert says it is mechanically sound, to someone with the skills and inclination to sort it it would be a cheap way of getting 0-60 in under 6 second in a convertable beemer that is actually a decent spec.
