Very premature disc wear? Advice appreciated

Hi everyone

Just taken my car for its inspection 2. The car has started to make a rattling noise on coasting at low speeds. It disappears when pressing the brakes.

The dealer has found that
Both front discs are extremely worn.
Both pads look new
Front passer side calliper is sticking

I purchased the car in march this year and have done around 2500 miles - all of which have been gentle. During the sale the original owner noticed a vibration on braking and his local dealer found that new pads and discs were needed. The vibration is back again but the discs have worn as above.

I am about to pick the car up - on the phone the only solution the dealer could offer was to fit new discs and brakes. I'd really appreciate any suggestions people have on what might have caused the discs to wear so prematurely.

I'd also expect that the original Bmw dealer should at least contribute to the cost of replacement discs / brakes as either they weren't fitted correctly or there is an underlying fault that was not diagnosed.

Help/advice appreciated

The car is under Bmw extended warranty

Not sure what this part of the sentence is meant to say, chap? Sounds like pads were replaced at sale but discs not? If the discs are worn, this can be the only reason really. If they are warped, I'd suggest they could be a poor batch and would take it up with whoever supplied and fitted them in March.

Hi guys

Thanks for the replies - apologies for the auto correct error.

The pads and discs were replaced during the original sale. But now discs are worn. The guy who handed me over the keys said he thought it was only the passenger side disc that had worn and this was the result of the sticking calliper. He tells me the calliper sticking is not covered by warranty.

So it seems the orignal vibration may have been caused by a sticking calliper but this wasn't picked up by the orignal dealer. Discs and pads changed at this point. Calliper has continued to stick and caused one of the new discs to wear.

It's slightly frustrating that it has had new discs / pads so recently and now looking at paying £1000 for new discs / breaks / callipers. Although I will definitely go to an indy rather than dealer. Google tells me a sticking calliper is covered under warranty but I fear the fact they have been painted by the previous owner may mean this isnt the case.

If it's been sold to you by BMW and "with a BMW warranty" it has a BMW warranty, as put simply, they were happy to sell the car in the state it was in (presuming you haven't changed anything).

I very much doubt you will have any joy with a warranty claim on the sticking caliper - that will be deemed wear and tear. Does the car have a full history of brake fluid changes?

How sure are you that the discs were replaced? If they have only 2500 miles on them it's hard to believe they have worn out, particularly on the side that doesn't have the sticking caliper. Can you post photos of both discs? With the wheel in-situ is fine, just so long as the bell, the friction surface and the disc edges are visible.

As an aside I bought a BMW approved used car some years back where the dealer fitted new pads onto discs that were past their wear limit. It does happen - the discs are quite dear and someone may have cut a corner.

So is only the one side sticking? Is the dealer offering both new calipers?
To me this sounds like either both calipers are sticking or that both discs werent replaced (they are expensive....)
In case of refurbishing/replacign the calipers, I'd also let them do a complete brake fluid flush. (also for the rear calipers)

As above
Take the calipers and carriers off and send to BIGG Red
Great guys great service great price

Refurb calipers new seals new gaskets new pins and can get finished in most colours in lacquered paint :)
