Hi have been deliberating over a few cars. Had wanted a mx5 mk3 but being 6"4 roof rests on my head so not very practical. Have 2'z4's in mind.
A 2003 fsh 2.5 litre 58k miles on clock. Or. 3.0 litre 2003 with fsh.
Will I fit in one is first question and 3.0 on paper is more economical and faster am I missing something. Any help much appreciated. 2.5 is £4400 and 3.0 is £2450.

Hi, you will fit in a z4-I would find out more about the 3litrer as that is seriously cheap & may have some major problems :?
If you use the search facility it will bring up some buyers guides to help you out

You don't mention the mileage of the 3.0 but at that price it must be fairly leggy- there isn't much in it between 2.5 and 3.0 in running costs and in my opinion real world performance- yes the 3.0 is considerably quicker but you just drive the 2.5 a bit harder to get the same performance.
Personaly at the age of these cars now u are better to buy on condition not engine size IMHO.
I've had my 2.2 for nearly 10 years and have never struggled on a forum run to 'keep up'. Speed is relative- my new X5 is a faster car but doesn't feel as fast as the z4 when spirited driving is involved.

I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

very short mot on that one though... I like more than ten months regardless of the miles since last Mot

........ I'm looking at a 2.5 tomorrow. They seem to vary quite a bit. The one I'm looking at has one years mot and 3 month part and labour warranty

:headbang: just beennand looked at 2.5 and I wish they would be honest in description. Plus it wasn't a private sale.
Roof was green! From algae plus quite tatty.
Wheels where scuffed and losing lacquer.
Scratches over just about every panel.
There was also lots of missing lacquer over various panels.
Inside was lovely and clean and tidy and best of all my 6"4" body fitted in it. But at nearly £5k walked away. The search continues

Were at the end of the summer season for most sports cars now unless you are like the rest of us die hard roaster owners who are topless all year. Prices will drop and you can look for a well spec-ed one. If you are after a roadster hold out for heated seats and you've got topless driving all year.

Loads of threads on here about what to look for - get the sports seats for example. Keep looking at the adds on here for a forum members car. They are normally well cared for and known. Set your self out a list of what you want and ask more questions - if you don't know what you want (should have) ask and you'll get no end of suggestions and reasons why from other forum members.

Good luck with you search  :driving:

I recently bought an 05 plate 3.0 after about 3 months of looking and several nearly buys which would have compromised my colour preference. In the end I decided to stick to my first choice and waited the the right 3.0 E85 in Stirling Grey an red leather with FSH. Paid £6200 in the end, private sale, but it was the best I'd seen and not the most expensive. Prices seem to vary dramatically but one dealer I spoke to thought the 3.0L versions were on the rise.
