Hi everyone,

My 1st post, so go easy!I am really interested in buying a z4, preferably the 3.0 roadster (Old shape). I currently own a audi tt 1.8t 225bhp. Looking for abit of a change and something that might pack more of a punch. Well I know the 3.0 does. So what I want to ask is, whats it like to own? And what are the common problems? Im not really looking for a list of what to check on a test drive, but the most common thingS that could go wrong with them and perhaps more specifically the 3.0.

Cheers everyone,
Hope this is a start of a long happy and prosperous relationship!

Common problems - springs, roof motors, corroding 18" split rims. Search for each for many threads with details.

Like to own - you'll see somewhere between 25 and 33 mpg depending on how you drive a 3.0i. It's brilliant fun on twisty roads (a damn sight more than your TT, I'd imagine), but will also happily cruise when required due to the 330i-sourced engine.

Welcome!

In addition to Spud's points the only other one I can think of is the airbag light, but that seems to be an inconvenience more than anything. Depending on where you are with the warranty these things can be fixed... even when mine was out I managed to get money off a new roof motor and free springs! Even with those extra £s I wouldn't have bought something different. All cars have their quibbles, coils on the TT was the when rather than if on IIRC?

Engines are great - BMW sixes are among the best IMO! Sound lovely too... in fact mines improved with age. One thing that did surprise me... how comfortable it is with the roof down... even at speed. With the wind deflector in and the windows down you don't get absolutely battered. The traction control bits allows some shenanigans too - a little provocation and the back will slide a bit before the brain brings things under control, far less intrusive than my mate's TT (late 225), that was a dog though! Fun is what the Z4 is.

Enough of me rambling, some more knowledgeable chaps will no doubt be along shortly!

Good luck!

mkay99, welcome to the forum...
We're a little bias here but we also appreciate other cars as well. The Z4 just does everything well and the in line 6 is just perfection.... :driving:

I also had a TT Coupe 225, and although it was a huge pile of unreliable crap, i did enjoy it on the days it worked (very few). I also have a 2003 53 3.0ise roadster so i can hopefully help you out on this one.

I have had mine almost 2 years and havent regretted it for a minute, the best move i ever did. The only 'very minor' problems i have had with mine was a cigarette lighter fuse, which i fixed in about 30 seconds and the alarm sensor under the bonnet, which after research one here (as everybody is so helpful) it was diagnosed as a part whch cost £8 from the dealer, i also fitted this myself so an easy fix.

To say its far more reliable than the shed of the TT i had, is an understatement. The biggest and more noticable things i love about it over the TT, is the engine note, and the fact its rear wheel drive, you just feel more involved over the 4 wheel drive tt.

hope this answers your queries..

Simply omitted because I didn't want to look foolish stating the bleeding obvious  ... but yes, as fire is hot, water's wet and BMW fours are the height of awesomeness!
