Vehicle check service....WTF?

My car has come up with a service light, I've been intrigued as it shouldn't be oil or brake fluid. Taken it into the dealers who tell me it's a vehicle service check which takes 45 mins. I would have thought this would be done as part of brake fluid and or oil services and as I've only had the car 5 months should have been covered prior to me picking it up as the car should have been fully checked.

Just an inconvenience really plus the fact if I didn't have a service pack I'd have to pay for this only to return in a few months to have a 'proper' service done. Not really sure why BMW now use build dates to trigger service intervals and it annoyed me about my last car but hey oh still got a nice roof down hoon, for like 4 miles if your lucky lol!

Agree totally, does seem stupid. We had a mini with the same arrangement. I was at the dealer twice in 2 months, first for an oil service then a month later for an inspection. Ridiculous.

It's time out today I don't really need and honestly thought why am I here? They said I could leave it until the next service and although I could reset the light, no point but just so silly. Grrrrr and the more I sit here the more I'm wondering why nobody can get through the door without some woman with a clipboard pouncing on them. They refused to let me go any further until I could tell them who I was there to see! Thought this was a car showroom and not a office? No wonder bmw are struggling selling cars if this is the attitude of some dealers. Saying that I didn't buy my last car from this one because they are crap.

On the upside I've managed to discover that bmw do a short whip type ariel for the z4 so I've ordered one.

So it's had it 'check' in 5 months and 800 miles this is the outcome - needs two new tyres although it had 4 new tyres fitted when I got it all got 8mm all round but the front tyres are cracked and rears are perfect (funnily enough) and the front alloys are bucked and distorted, the bolster is worn - this was like this and it's due a service in September which I knew about.

Not best pleased about the front wheels and tyres. I highly suspect that that wheels were already in that condition, so I'm going to ask to see the pre delivery 'health' report but the wheels are only an advisory, surely that should be an item that needs replacing??

Anyway, off on holiday tomorrow so I'll deal with it when I get back. However wheels are wear and tear, really in not even a full 5 months and 800 miles???

Now I know how I got it for just under £25k from a main dealer lol

I'm guessing they didn't do the check before you bought as it had a service pack so you would not incur and charge.

That said it's a waste of time as you say. I had it done on my 1 series and they found nothing. Fast forward 4 weeks and 800 miles when a service was due. I needed one tyre, new front wiper blades and front brakes. Needless to say they didn't get the work, the tyre want replaced for about 4 months and the brakes lasted another 12,000 miles.

As you say the wheels were probably like it. I would guess that most cards running 18/19" wheels have issues considering the road we drive on.

If I read it right though and you have done 800 miles I would be kicking up a fuss though.

Indeed only done 800 miles, just seems that there has been a few things now and I'm not sure they actually checked anything prior to me picking it up. Which as part of buying from a bmw dealer they are supposed too! First the washers and now all this.

Funnily enough I'll be stopping by the garage I bought it from on my way down south tomorrow. Needless to say I'll not be mincing my words.

However the tubes at the garage I used today have listed my car as a E90 320i sport on the docs. Arses! But maybe the garage I bought from would like to check the car and let me know what they find. I'm guessing they'll disagree with the other garage and I wouldn't blame them as I put the car up this afternoon at a friends garage, we slowly rotated the wheels and can't find any bucking or distortion. I would have also thought a buckle would have resulted in the wheels needing replaced immediately. Also back wheels which follow the front ones are fine according to them? Again the are also fine when checking this afternoon.

Love how wheels are considered 'wear and tear' items. Ahem? Tyres, yes, alloy wheels, surely not :!:
