Vauxhall Lifetime Warranty?

All new Vauxhall now come with "Lifetime Warranty", but it is limited to 100,000 miles for first owner only. Do Vauxhall imply that the life of their cars is only 100,000 miles?

I can see a whole new business scheme ... long term renting out your Vauxhall car to second owners so that the warranty stays intact.

Means a check that is about the same costs as what an extended warranty would be I bet.

it could be a million mile warranty with free servicing and I still wouldn't buy a vauxhall.

I think it's a very shrewd and clever bit of marketing that raises the bar on the like's of Kia with 7 year warranties.

Most Vauxhalls are company/commercial cars, so no doubt excluded. Very few will keep them for 'life' or 100k and so actual numbers covered will be minimal.

Annual check rules many more out as people won't bother or cn't justify it after a few years of ownership.

End result is probably little extra cost and huge perceived value - neat.

Now if this was on a presitge or premium car like BMW, Merc, Audi where individuals do buy and keep for years (like my from new X5 with near 100k) then it would be interesting

The politicians call it smoke and mirrors. You're right CJ the amount of single owner vehicles that ever reach 100k miles will be in single perecentage figures (if not lower) of the cars sold. Interesting to note how they (Vauxhall) define 'owner'. In the UK the registered keeper (the details on the V5 registration document) do not prove sole ownership only a legal obligation in terms of use - although this is not conclusive but accepted by a majority of UK courts.

The Vauxhall Lifetime 100 said:
This warranty provided by the manufacturer does not adversely affect the statutory rights of the purchaser against the seller and gives remedies in addition to those against the seller under the contract of sale. Claims by the purchaser, in particular for a defect on a vehicle, against the selling Vauxhall Distributor remain unaffected by the warranty.

General Motors UK Limited (hereinafter called “Vauxhall”) and its successors in title, warrants for vehicles of their manufacture:

1. 12 months, without limitation of mileage, from the date the vehicle is delivered to the original purchaser by the Authorised Distributor, as stated in the warranty booklet.
2. Between 13 and 36 months with a limitation of 60,000 miles, whatever comes first.
3. Beyond the limit of a) 60,000 miles and b) 36 months, whichever comes first for the lifetime of the vehicle to the first registered owner of the vehicle or until the new vehicle has been driven 100,000 miles, under the terms and conditions stated below.
4. All derivatives of Movano, Vivaro, Combo and all car-derived vans are not eligible for Lifetime Warranty.

1. Lifetime Warranty for the First Registered Owner
1.1. Duration of the warranty, dependence on first owner
Vauxhall undertakes that each new motor vehicle supplied thereon by Vauxhall as original equipment will be free from defect in material or workmanship according to the state of the art under normal use and service for an unlimited time period and a maximum of 100,000 miles. The warranty is valid for the first registered owner of the vehicle who bought the vehicle at a Vauxhall Authorised Retailer.

The warranty starts with the date of delivery by the Vauxhall Retailer or date of first registration, whatever comes first.

1.2. Coverage of the lifetime warranty
The warranty applies to free of charge repair of the vehicle by a Vauxhall Authorised Repairer, i.e. Vauxhall’s obligations under this warranty being limited to repairing or replacing at its option any parts by a Vauxhall Authorised Repairer. The repair or replacement of defective parts under this undertaking will be made by the Authorised Repairer to whom the vehicle is returned, free of charge to the customer.

For the parts fitted during a repair, until expiry of the warranty mileage limitation according to Paragraph 1, the same warranty is given as for the motor vehicle, i.e. the warranty is not extended by the repair or replacement of parts even for the parts rectified or replaced. Replaced parts become the property of Vauxhall.

Warranty claims can only be made on presentation of the certificate of Lifetime Warranty and the Service and Warranty Booklet with the international warranty certificate completed and signed by the supplying Vauxhall Authorised Dealer. Lifetime Warranty cover is also dependent upon the confirmation that the vehicle has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturers recommended servicing schedule.

Vauxhall reserves the right to appoint its own engineer to inspect the vehicle prior to any repair or replacement of part(s) covered.

Vauxhall at its discretion may elect to agree with the owner a value for the vehicle in case the parts and labour cost of the repair exceeds the economic value of the vehicle, or in case the parts are no longer available.

The warranty does not extend to the fixing of consequential damage caused by the above mentioned covered components.

1.3. Customer duties to retain warranty
The Lifetime Warranty is dependent on an annual visit of the vehicle to a Vauxhall Authorised Repairer who will activate and validate the warranty extension for another year starting from the new activation date.

Activation and validation of the warranty is required every 12 months. This can only be carried out by a Vauxhall Authorised Repairer.

The activation and validation can be performed up to 14 days after the expiry date of the preceding certificates expiry date.

Annual activation and validation of the lifetime warranty cover is also dependent upon the confirmation that the vehicle has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturers recommended servicing schedule. Vauxhall may request details of this service history at any time during the warranty period.

1.4. Data protection

Thanks mmm-five for the detail of the warranty - a licence to print money for the lawyers who will inevtiable get involved in trying to sort out the legal implications when a claim is refused.

As cj said,a good marketing move/one up on kia.

easty; i qt like Vauxhalls, they have made some very good cars over the years, and still do (current Isignia,VXR8,ANY VXR,ETC)

Years ago, a (smaller) token gift was given by VW: Free MOT for life.

Same rules - first owner as well, and the same statistics would apply - how many owners keep the car from new for more then 1 or two MOTs at the most. Sounds good for marketing though.

Local Vauxhall dealer has been offering free MOT's for life on any car bought from them new or used, of course you have to have it serviced there.

I only considered buying a Calibra in 1997. It is the only Vauxhall that I still think it looks good.

...and of course it's predecessor the Manta GT/E Coupe. :driving:

looks like the RAC warranty detail. Wear and tear to any components is excluded, I have an RAC warranty on a peugeot, and so far nothing has been covered because it was 'worn' rather than 'defective', ie: shocks, wheel bearings, wishbone ball joints.....most common cause of problems when approaching higher mileages
"Excluded is the replacement of components that have failed due to wear and tear"

The extension is worthless in my opinion.
